Spike Air Cleaner Help!

OK so............whoever owned the bike before me took good care of it but evidently didn't ride like me!:job: With the Spike facing forward gets a forced induction effect and is fine for cruising around under 50mph but getting it out on the highway and opening it up and trying to run 80mph and keep it there is next to impossible!:rant: It just gets too much air and she starts spitting and sputtering from lack of fuel and to much induction.

So.........instead of re jetting and trying to make it work I think it would be better to stand it up for now and see how she runs then. Here in lies my trouble!:angry: Went to turn it up right and when I went to thread in the bolts after getting gasket lined up found that the bolts for the 3 o'clock position DO NOT fir the HIGH NOON position. They are smaller Outer Diameter and Threads. The other are 10/20 X 3/4" and I tried 10/24 X 3/4" but of course these are too small!:bang: So unless I can find a 10/22 X 3/4" I don't really know what size it is...................

Does anyone know or have this problem before???:rolleyes:

Thanks! Yeah thats what I wanna do but need size of bolts? There are 2 sets of threaded holes one for the 3 o'clock position and another slightly smaller one for the Hig Noon position.:up:

Hollywood, One question do you know if the Carb Vent screw was removed? I have the D&M twister and before removing the vent bowl screw it would sputter at high speeds and lose power. Once I removed this no problem.

Have had mine upright for 4 years and no problems. Sometimes a strong crosswind from the left of bike will make engine miss for a second looking for air. Just realize with the upright position that if you ever hit anything your leg is more that likely to hit the sharp edge and...............well I don't think about it either!!!!!!!! Looks cool upright, though. Sorry, dont know bolt size right off. Home Depot or Ace Hardware should have them.:2thumbs:

Ok after searching around online and Fleabay I clearly see there are 2 different sets and sizes of bolts for these and the adapter. Problem is I have the Bigger one but need to know the size of bolts for smaller size??????

I know quite of few people have these so anyone know??????

I have the same filter on mine also. I removed my Carb Vent screw and haven't had any problems. I run mine the same way as yours is. I did re-jet when I installed the cleaner and pipes. I'm running a .031 Intermediate jet and a .078 main jet. My combo runs fine and I've been running it this way for the past four years...:2thumbs:

It's the all new, vent my ears up is slide my cone over the slots is lots and lots of lost air flow is don't chew know. Get it? "I have a forced air feeder meter is me." Sheet metal slot me closed, its a miracle! Here I am putting 88, I reach aroundown at the cone and twist the ufck hold on did something happen!

Check to see if the screw is removed ride it see if it makes a difference. Check your plugs to see if you are running rich/lean before jetting. I would start small and work back...
Previous thread sound familiar???

I had the exact same problem when I first installed the the D&M Spike "raptor," but the problem was simply solved by removing the "bowl vent screw." Check out the S&S link...it mentioned removing the "bowl vent screw." Good luck.

I also have the D&M Spike and have run it both ways. I used the same bolts to run it vertical. When I moved to the vertical position it looked like the holes for the vertical bolts were a different size but they were the same. The holes for vertical alignment just needed to be cleaned out because of the chroming process. Try running a tap through the hole and see if its just chrome in the holes. By the way mine just runs better vertical. When running my spike forward on cool or cold days at around 70-75mph mine would stumble some times and feel like a flat spot. On hot days no problem.....Vertical I have no problems no matter what the temps are.

X2, Exactly the same scenario on my 06 K9... I am now running it vertical. I did, also, take the vent plug out as per S&S instructions... No problems since.
