Calling all painters!!

Ok so I just bought my 2006 Ridgeback 3 months ago and I LOVE IT!!! I am however a perfectionist and the paint altho from a distance looks amazing when up close you can see quite a few spots of weather and imperfections in the clear. Now mind you I am a Picaso with a spray can but little to no experience with the spray gun. Got a nice gift last year for Xmas, a nice little compressor with a air gun and spray gun just big enough to tackle a job like painting the tins ( tank, front and back fender ).

I'm thinking all it would take is some wet sanding to atke the clear down a bit to get the inperfections out then just shooting it again with clear. I do have a small one car agrage that would work great for this just would need to put a nice heater in there to get it up to temp.

So I guess my question is any advise on how I shold go about doing it or should I just take them to saomeone that knows what they are doing and bite the bullet and pay the price? I have always been a hands on do it yourself kind of guy and get more satisfaction out of doing it myself but DO NOT wanna ruin and perfectle good paint job and tribal design to boot!

Any help appreciated!!

My advise to you is take it to a reputable painter that has experience in quality show paint on custom bikes. This is not a project to tackle at home in the garage. One false move you could be dealing with trash I. The clear or even worse, flaking clear in the future. A show quality paint job will take a while and many coats of clear in order to be color sanded and polished to perfection in the end. Hope this helps!

Hollywood,
IMO, DON'T DO IT!!!!
Especially being the perfectionist that you say you are.
To get a great clear coat finish, you need professional equipment, wet sanded with the correct grit sand paper, properly thinned paint, an experienced painter, and a dust free paint booth.

Hey dude it was looking at your paint job you did that got me thinking!!:2thumbs:

Altho I do have the Tribal Print on it already to worry about this is why I am thinking maybe just let someone that knows whats up do it! I have a guy just like doing shit myself! Maybe he would let me run the gun a few times if I do take it to him!

Just love to tinker man!!!!

Thinking I will stick to the polishing and let my guy do the painting!

Maybe I'll look for some old tins to practice on for the next go around!

If you have the balls to sand it you can sand out the imperfections and buff it if they are not too deep.
Can you feel the imperfections with your fingernail?

Yes in the weathered spots you can! Like along the struts front and back in some spots then on the back fender and tank has a spot where the clear orange pealed. The back fender is the worse where he freakin road with the seat on with no suction cups and scrathced the shit out of it!! Can't see with seat on but I know its there!:(

It's hard to say without seeing it. If you are committed to having it painted you can't hurt it too bad by sanding and buffing it.
You could try a piece of 2000 grit to smooth it out then compound it.
It's not that hard to do but it is one of those experience things.
You could look on utube for sand and buff or wet sand and polish, ect and see if you think it is in your skill set.

My thoughts exactly! I have alot of experince in buffing and detailing for a long time just no painting experience. I have a 2006 Charger I take to shows still and has 161,000 miles on her now and you would swear it only had 6,000. All about how you take care of your shit!

Thanks again!

Here are some pics but unfortunately you really can't see the imperfections on the bike..............

Utopiapga... I may get bashed for saying this.
But I honestly think "tribal" has unfortunately been overdone and over used.
BUT, that is one of the SWEEEEEETEST paint jobs I've seen!!
The 3-deminsional design and blade look on that is sick!
It's by far one of the best I've seen!!

I have been a painter for 30 years, and if you are that particular about the issues you are now having with your paint job, there is no way in the world you personally who has no experience painting will make them any better....The best advice i can give you is take it to a reputable painter, and practice your new painting carreer on something else, before you cost yourself a whole lotta money and aggravation.....

Wow! Thanks for the vote of confidence there! Yes it is my bike and yes I am paticular about my stuff. You cannot see what I am talking about in these pics just not close and clear enough. I do have some painting experience but not 30 years. Thanks for your advise and I will keep it in mind for future reference................

Well man still up in the air. Going to be nice this weekend so going to ride and think about it!

Than take it to my guy and ask him again what he thinks and how much! He quoted me $700 without looking at it. We will see!
