NEED SOME HELP!!!

I was cruising last night on my dresser (not K-9) in 5th gear (60-65mph) for about 10 miles. I was coming up to an intersection and needed to start downshifting and the foot shifter wouldn't budge, up or down. Just locked up. Had to take off in 5th gear. About 3 minutes later I tried shifting and everything was normal again. Any ideas on the problem?

Thanks

What year? Miles?

Sounds like something got locked up from previous shift and took a minute to work loose. Happens once or twice and not again no big deal. Continues and I would say the Trans needs to be opened and the shift forks adjusted or a possible rebuild.

I have seen where the shift shaft going threw the support on front of primary has become so corroded that it freezes up every now and then. If you can spray some PB blaster or something like that down along both ends of shaft, it might fix the problem. Otherwise, you could have something else going on inside the transmission itself. Let us know what you find.

You are pretty close. I talked with George Bryce who owns an NHRA Pro Stock Bike race team and he said just about what you said. It might not of been completely engaged in 5th gear as I was cruising. When I tried to downshift it was locked and eventually unlocked.

Alls good ...Thanks Guys
