Putting some old school in the new school

Title may not make to much sense, but then again either do some of my ideas lol... Anyway I wanted to see what some of you thought of this!!! After helping a friend with his 57 pan head ( re-wired the bike for him ) and got new tins and springer on it.. I want to get mine as old school as I can.. and in doing so i mean to ( Drum roll )

Remove Oil sensor - Replace with Oil Gauge
I already removed horn due to ground wire breaking off ( 2 wires eliminated )
Dummie lights ( Nutural light doesnt work anyway So i was going to eliminate those wires and switch.
My break lights are integrated in my rear signals So i was going to eliuminate the plate light ( speaking of, anyone know where I could get my hands on just a simple chrome bracket that uses stock location id like veritcal )

When I bought my bike it came with some pretty cool purple lights that were installed half assed so i removed all those and will maybe get a few newer lights just to make the engine glow.

So all in all im sure you guys get the idea, Im trying to simplify this whole wiring big dog nightmare and just stick with the basics... Are there any drawbacks to what im doing, The reason I ask is because you guys are like the GOATS of these bikes Thanks in advance!!!

You got the original EHC?

If you just cut the wires the EHC will sense a short and fault light will come on. The Neutral light isn't a big deal, honestly if it doesnt work just leave it why waste the time removing the wires?

You have lights on your license plate? My 04 doesn't have anything just a polished aluminum plate

If you want to eliminate wires. Just rip everything out ditch the EHC and start fresh and ditch all the extra crap like neutral light's/oil lights, etc. Fuses and relay's for turn signals and move along.

I will be honest the Big Dog wiring isn't that much of a nightmare its daunting at first but once you wrap your head around it you can easily diagnose issues as every circuit is isolated. A lot of people just don't undestand it, they don't spend the time to think about it.

Yeah, Im starting to get the hang of it, The only wires I cut so far was the horn wire, cut it near the ehc capped and taped it, and your right about leaving them in for now I will do that, However in the near future if I go Wire Plus ill weed them out.

The one issue you may have is the plate lite.....
Lawriter - ORC - 4513.05 Tail lights and illumination of rear license plate.

IF you still retain the ECH, you may wanna leave well enough alone. It doesn't take much to freak out the Big Dog ECH. If you rewire the entire thing by scratch you can eliminate some of the crap you don't want. Just my two cents.
I agree, I will just leave it alone for now, Only thing I cut so far was the horn , I'm still trying to find a decent plate bracket having a hard time locating one.

We couldn't get you to do a simple test of your cam sensor but then you do a complete wiring job on a motorcycle for a friend? And now you want to modify the wiring on your bike? Seriously??? :loony:

I have to ask, does your friend's bike run? Does yours???

Baby steps my friend...

I just didn't have access to a multimeter at the time, I know enough to know that I dont know enough about electrical, I'm comfortable doing a fresh setup, However on bikes that im unfamiliar with its hard to diagnose. and Its a 57 Pan head there isnt much to the wiring what so ever lol 17 wires on the bike total.

After today of doing some more testing and wire tracking on my bike its actually kinda simple (in a way lol)

Thanks for the advise Dennis.

I wish I had more money.
There is a how to in here somewhere on how to turn your existing plate bracket from horizontal to vert.
