Just bought an 05 pitbull, and new to this forum but have read everything I can to educate myself on BD's electrical issues. Including this entire post. My bike shuts down while riding, actually starts cutting out like its running out of gas and then shuts down completely. A couple of times it actually came back after sputters and pops and did'nt shut down completely. Put about 100 miles on it this last weekend at BBB here in Arkansas and it quit on me probably 6 times. Seems like I can turn the key off, let it sit for 10 seconds, turn it back on a motor on. Until the next shut down. I knew of these issues when I bought the bike but I am not afraid of tearing it apart to fix. Also, the tach does not work and the right turn signal does not work. I took the ehc out today to check it out. It does have the usb port on it so from what I've read this means it is an updated ehc? I cleaned it good with contact spray and packed it with elec grease. It was also just laying on the tray with no attachment so I used some heavy duty velcro to hold it down and give it some cushion. The tach did respond to that but I have'nt ridden it yet to see if it has started working correctly. Also from what I've read, it appears I may want to check the ignition switch? Its pretty loose feeling so it might be an issue. It also turns off almost immediately so also from what I've read this is an older switch and could be a problem?
I have no problem getting the WP upgrade but don't want to lay down $600 until I know that will fix the problems. I've learned in the past to start with the easy/cheap stuff first.
If someone has any input on my specific situation I would appreciate your advice.
Thanks
