Timken wheel bearings

Recently ordered Timken wheel bearings for my 06 K-9. Front is 204PP4 and rear is 205KDD2. This is what the local dealer ordered based upon the Chinese crap I gave him for sizing. Is this the correct bearing; style and size for wheel bearings? Secondly. they have the steel sides. Is this their lesser quality? I thought the rubber sides were a higher quality. I just do not another failure. Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks. Do yours, the 205's have steel side covers or rubber like the 204's? I am ready to install them yet and want to be sure I am installing the right ones. BTW; what kind of longevity are you getting/anticipate with the TImkems in lieu of the 10k on the Chinese bearing form BD?

Are these the bearings that fit most Dogs? If these are what most use I could look into stocking them. Also what are you guys paying for them and how many are required front and rear?

That would be awesome!! Stock Timken Wheel Bearings and Neck Bearings :up: I'll order a set as soon as you get em. Thats on my winter maintence list this yr.

I think they are similiar for most dogs except a certain wheel set I believe, someone will chime in with more knowledge.

to go a step farther in the #, what i have for the front is 204pp4 z22p (qty. 2ea.). and the rear is 204KDD2 (qty. 3ea.). apparently all with the rubber dust cover.

yes mine had the metal side covers...and as far as milage out of them...i dont know, i just know the factory wheel bearings came apart on a trip with 12,000 mi on bike...so i replaced all of them...and don that would be great if you stocked these bearings, i think these numbers are good on all 2005 and up...

Don, To answer your question: (2) 204PP4 for the front and (3) 205KDD2 for the rear (Timken). All the info here indicates they are the correct size and I did spec them and all the measurements seem to be correct. As fro as cost; I purchased all five from a local bearing distributor who had to order them and I paid full retail--$171.00. Al

If you got Timken Bearings,then you got some of the best out there! I always use timken bearings when I can,there great......The hell with all this garbage being built in frickin china and mexico.....You will get a Excellent service life with those bearings....

$171 for front and rear :eek:

I have no problems replacing bearings every tire change, you got the wheel off no extra effort. I sure hope for the Timken price your getting 30k+ miles out of them.

I have a 2007 chopper and bought an Ultima 58mm front end and my front wheel bearings are going bad so I decided to change them. I did a search on this site and found a few threads about wheel bearings. I have 2204 r12 I think in the front and ordered Timkin 204's replacements that the ID was too big for the axel shaft so I ordered SKF and same thing. The stock bearings are very tight on the axel and the axel has to be tapped into the hubs. I want quality replacement bearings but finding the correct ones seems to be challenging. Was told the only replacement bearings in the size I need are only offered by a Korean manufacturer due to the half size ID. It's a 3/4 axel so I have no idea what the problem is.

Guys just a thought but....Timken, as well as SKF sell a ton of repackaged china bearings.
You cannot know until you open up the box and look at the bearing itself. In fact most of those are stamped right on the bearing made in china. Thats why I have such a hard time getting the special bearings I use to rebuild transmissions and pay a premium for them.
Just because it has a good name does not mean that it is a good part. You really have to dig a lot deeper to find a good bearing these days.

Tom and Bobby are both spot on.
Finding a quality bearing is getting so much harder these days.
My bearings are the same a Woodbutcher, it took 2 weeks to get them delivered.
However i paid $136 AU thats about $2,000 US these days..............isn't it?

I too had my rear wheel bearings fail at 12,000 miles. Lost my little balls ( hate when that happens) Was only 40 miles from home when I noticed the wine in rear wheel, made it home ok. Took axel and what was left of rear wheel bearings to local bearing shop. asked for timken bearings when I placed them on my axel felt a little loose. so after carefull measurinmg went with Rad Ball Brg-SML SZ w/2 at $9.83 for a total with seals of $29.48
When the balls came out they chewed on the wheel spacer pretty good. So I had to replace it, notice the wheel spacer only rides about half way up on balls in bearing, so I had custom wheel spacer made $15, same inside diameter but increased outside diameter so if wheel bearing fails balls can't get out, got to like( keeping balls safe) 25550 miles now no problems yet, Knock on wood

I always have piece of mind and have NEVER had a bearing fail... :2thumbs:
