Hey guys, I havent posted in awhile but I have done an Intro :) I am having problems with my 09 K9. Started being an intermittent problem. After I pressure washed her. "Think its a coincident" I did cover my air cleaner and other important parts that shouldn't get wet. Started and rode fine but warmed up give her gas in 5th or 6th gear starts to sputter then worked fine. Did this twice. Now when she warms up 10 min or less she starts to sputter give it gas and it just dies. If i try to start it again sometimes it starts sometimes it does not. It is NOT a fuel problem I checked tank, fuel valve ect multiple times. If I let her cool she starts runs fine then does it again. Changed battery, wires, plugs. Primary chain is fine clutch plates and all the regular maintenance was done. Nothing helped. Everyone I have talked to says its the ECH. SO I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me, and if anyone has used the new Big Dog PDM Electrical System Retrofit kit? Thank you guys in advance im lost without my scoot. Dan

PDM is fine if you can get one. WP is much harder to install but also works. Do a search here, there are a million threads on them both.

Is the gas cap venting properly. If your cap still has that white piece. unscrew it and throw it away

could just be that water got in a connection somewhere and corroded enough to cause intermittent trouble.

Take your right hand switch apart on the handlebars (throttle side) and see if moisture is traped in there. If it is dry it . Check your grounds to the frame by the battery and see if any are loose, broken or caroded. Hope this helps.

Is it by chance a EFI bike. The Stepper motor is prone to malfunction if the connectors get wet.

If an EFI bike?

Check the connection for the engine temp sensor which comes from the intake manifold bolt with wires in it.

AIC (Automatic Idle Controller) located on the intake throttle body. (stepper motor above) It controls the engine idle RPMs.

No, it is a carb bike. Yes it seems to run and idle fine until it warms up 5-10 min max. I will try to see the ground connections on battery and right hand switch apart. And I will see if the white piece is under my cap. It seemed to run a bit longer when I replaced the battery. I thought I fixed the problem =(. Is there a definite way to tell if it is the ECH? Thanks so much guys

my vote is on the crank sensor. mine quit when it got hot a couple times then would crank when it cooled off a little. until it quit for good and left me stranded. a Harley big twin crank sensor (about 70 or 80 dollars) will work fine but the connector is wrong, I had to cut the old connector off and splice wires.
If the crank sensor is bad, the LED's won't blink on the ignition module.

Humm I think they blink. Would they not blink at all? or just when it is acting up? I get back home tomorrow " I work on the road" I will try everything that all of you suggested. lol I would just like to know If I should order the PDM or hold off and save the 600 bucks. Thanks again guys for all the help.

I wish I had more money.
Start it up let it do it's thing. When it stalls look to see if the light is flickering while you are turning it over. If its not flickering that would indicate a possible censor failure.

I had the Twisted 12mm wires on it, thinking it could be the problem I put the stock ones back on and it still does same thing. Had iridium plugs in it changed those back to regular NGK's and still no help. Ugg this is getting frustrating.

Ride around the neighborhood till it stalls. When it stalls try to start it while looking at the ignition module. The light on the module should be flickering. If its not let us know. Easy check and takes very little time. But you have to do it just after the bike stalls.

I started the PDM swap yesterday. Hopefully get it finished by Friday. Took about 6 weeks to get it in. I started having random problems with horn/high beams/turn signals/LED license plate light flickering. I decided that a PDM swap was unavoidable. With all the probs with the EHC I have been seeing on here, I know it is a matter of time before I have to swap mine out anyways. Figured I had 6 weeks of riding while I wait for the part, versus a nice garage piece of art...

Good luck with that swap rex , I know we talked about it in sturgis and was wondering if you started it yet. Then all you have to do is take the Down Tube stickers off.:hi::hi:

LOL...Down tube stickers magically fell off when I got home. Weird coincidence, huh?? :)
Got the PDM finished tonite but I cant quite get the horn wired right. I need to find someone with the PDM and see how they did it. For what its worth, it wasnt the EHC causing any of my problems. One connector under the tank was smashed and causing the hi/lo beam prom and left turn signal. Plus the license plate LED is still flickering, so I figure it must be actually LED board.
