Clearly oil, not grease or tar.Road grease a good possibilty. I have it in my ears all the time,,,
There is a small spot the size of a quarter or maybe a 50 cent piece on the ground after its parked. Stock motor (117 S&S). I live with it before I pull the motor and to a tear down. Was wondering if the RTV would work. Maybe Ill give that a try. What motor?
How much leaking?
Only real fix is to crack the cases ... Some leaking ain't gonna hurt anything
I would thoroughly clean the entire engine with brake cleaner, then start touching with small wipes above and continue upward where you think the oil is leaking. I thought my was leaking at one time, followed the fresh oil from the seam to the oil sending unit. Very-very hard to find and trace because the oil was clean. I had to do this about 3-4 times before I found the leak. It's almost like an attic leak......the water drops in one spot but the leak is yards away from where the water drops.
Thanks Rick. I'll give that area a closer inspectionGrant,
My drop was hanging from the center seam the same as yours...I thought the same thing, how can I seal this. Later after cleaning, touching looking for wetness over and over, I finally discovered a little run of oil from the sending unit, running along the side, down a bolt, across to the center and then just hanging.....what a relief. Tightened the sending unit, no more leak.
