Going from 2.5" extended forward controls back to stock position

Hello to all. Great having so many smart people in one place!!
I have a question about changing back to the standard forward controls on my 08 K9. I've done the shifter side, no problem. I'm not sure if I want to do the brake side if I have to do anything that would require bleeding the brakes.
Will someone(s) tell me what's involved in changing out the brake side. Do I need to drain the master cylinder or add additional fluid or is it just a matter of unbolting the brake controls from the extended plate and then replacing the extended mount with the standard mount? Believe me when I say I appreciate this site. I'm not really a wrencher but I'm not opposed to saving some money when I can. thanx

I'm no mechanic ( I learned most of what I know from here and reading shop manuals ) and someone else can chime in... But when i added the extensions on mine, I did have to disconnect the brake line, but it was just to re-route it a little ( it was just barely long enough already ).

I doubt it would be a problem going back to stock, you'll have a little extra line there, just make sure it's secure where it won't rub or flop excessively in the wind. You'll probably be just fine.

If you do end up disconnecting the brake line. Make sure it's closed off and keep dirt and debris out of it. And after you reconnect you will need to bleed the system to get all the air out. That's really critical for proper brake function. It's easier if you have 2 people doing that together. One to function the lever and the other to open/close the outlet. Just coordinate with each other and it's not so bad, only took about 10-15 mins to re-route the line and bleed the system.

I didn't drain the cylinder, although I had to add more fluid during the bleeding process, so have some around if you go down that path. I can tell you the extra length: it was really worth the effort for me.

Thank you dapfunk! Looks like I'll have a Saturday morning project. I'm going to try mightily to NOT undo that brake line. So very handy having people that have already had the experience.

Joe,

Any chance your are looking to sell the 2.5 extensions.

As a matter of fact, I would like to sell those extensions. Want to clean them up first. Still need to take the brake side off. I've not bought or sold anything on this site. How would we do this? You can PM me if you'd rather.

In conclusion, changing back to the standard forward controls from the extended proved quite simple and easy. The only thing I will mention is, on the brake side, the standard mounting plate only needs (1) 5/16-18 flat head socket screw. Two are utilized in the extended controls. I say this in case two of these same screws are not included when purchasing the extended forward control kit. At least that's the way it worked on my K9.
Again thanks and the extended controls have been sold.
