Any help or advise?
Today i was returning from a. 300 miles ride in the dog. 3 times It went dead on the road (éngine, lights, etc) BUT i closed and opened the key switch and returned to life...
3 miles from home the Dakota digital and tach lights went crazy...

Opinions?

Short, bad connection, bad key switch or the dreaded EHC?

I would start with checking all connections then the ignition switch! Quick and easy... If that doesn't do it I would look for a chafe in the wiring...

I have an similar issue where several times I have turned the switch on and no power whatsoever, as if it was in the off position. Disconnected the battery on two separate occasions and the coil, put it all back together and fired up. The third time I turned the ignition and the same problem. I shut it off, turned it back on and the power was there. All the connections appear to be good and tight and free of any crap on them. Wondering if my key/ignition switch is going bad as well.....Sorry not trying to hijack your thread there chihuasbigdog. I am wondering WTF as well. Never had it cut off on me while riding though. My three incidents happened in a six month span.

did you replace your battery.... I remember your post on Braille / Tomioka....so you were running down the road and you lost all power ?

You got an EHC in there? The fact that you can cycle the key and get it started back up points to that. It's the only failure point on the bike other than the key switch itself that will shut down both lights and spark.

Sounds like a power interuption to the EHC caused by many possibilities.

Battery terminal CRIMPS
Poor battery terminal connections
Keyswitch
Loose harness connection
Rubbed wire in harness causing short circuit
EHC Module
EHC harness connections

Do a search for similar problem and you will find more.

Battery has not arrived yet and old Braille is fully charged. And yes i lost all power and engine shut off while riding @ 85 mph but as said before i closed and opened the key switch and lights and motor started.

I do have an EhC Moe, i will start checking my ignition key switch, the harness under the tank looking for a crimped cable and the connectors of the EHC.

Man Chili, you've been to Sturgis and all over on that bike! Sorry to here you are having trouble. Like everyone says, check the key switch (they take a lot of heat and vibration abuse). Hope it is a simple fix.

UPDATE.
I changed the connector from the harness and into the key switch. Being there i also tightened the coil screws.
Put the key on the On position and voila! It started with no lights issue...
Didnt have time for riding so tomorrow will test It.

Check all your ground connections for sure, was one of my problems with electrical. Replaced connectors on the grounds at the battery and all was good. GOOD LUCK
