Cracked Primary Inspection Cover

Seeking information to buy / build a new Primary inspection cover. I've already tried to make contact w/ a previous member of the BDB group that was going to have this cover milled, No reply yet!
is Baker the only game in town to get this cover from? and for $76 (really) Everyone should be advised that the 108 In Lbs Torque spec by Big Dog in the Svc. Manual is bull-shit, you will break the cover every time - so don't do it. hand tighten with a criss crossing pattern stop when just snug, not tight! if you insist on Torquing - use a 70 - 80 In. lb. Max. Just say'n or else:bang:

I broke one of the dog ears also and found one on ebay last year for $50-ish. I don't recall whether I bought it from shovelheadkicker or not, but he is now on this site. Mine was chrome.

Thanx, I'm waiting on BDpartsking for a call back. I'm thinking i will just have one milled out using a heavier billet aluminum - cheaper than new!

I've seen them at Dennis Kirk, J&P, and a few other places as well. Should be easy to find.

I know what you mean. Tighten to spec. and look for a new cover. I found one on ebay for $35 last year. Keep looking and you will find one. I made a thick paper gasket and put some high temp sealer on it and a little more then hand tight and it has been on there for 4500 miles with no leaks.

Yep, I also found the torque is too high and only use half of what the service manual says on the inspection cover. Then, I check it again if I see seepage and only make sure it is snug. I purchased mine through Strokers who gets them from Baker.

Sorry:down: / I failed with the first machinist, he thought the job was too difficult so I,m looking for another one - guess I wont be posting pics anytime soon (of a primary inspection cover that is).
