Hello all...I'm thinking about getting either a K-9 or Ridgeback...I have never had a "chopper" before...how difficult are they to ridecontrol compared to, say, a HD softail? Do they have a nice ride? Are they hard to control, especially at slow speeds? How about with a passenger? Any feedback would be appreciated...ride safe!

It really depends on what kind of ride you want! Ridgeback is a ridged no suspension K9 is a softail..... Both are Awesome!!!!!!:2thumbs:

Oh they are longer than an HD Softail!!!! But it doesn't take much to get used too I love my chopper!!!!

I just wanta ride
Love the ridge but if you wanna have a passenger you might wanna consider not going with a hardtail... The K-9 would be great for 2 up riding. Just my. 02

There easy to control once you put some miles on them. They handle different than a Harley.

Ridgebacks rule - and women love the vibrations! Just avoid the pot holes and you'll be find - smooth ride in my opinion.

I would actually consider what part of the country you live in as well. Generally speaking the south have better roads than the North as the South doesn't have to deal with the cold, plows, sand/salt.

I just did a vacation up in Massachusetts to visit family rode my dads 77 FLH softail about 700 miles in the week I was up there. I can assure you some of the roads I went on that were absolutely beautiful I would have been going really slow on my ridgeback down them. Just too much tar fill all over the road and bumpy as hell.

HD is like riding with power steering.

Long bikes are like manual steering.

Both work, it just takes more effort on the manual steering.

Definately depends on where you live. I ride a K-9 and love it. Whatever you get, give it about 200 miles and you'll have the feel of it. No problem.

On that note just to add I'm working in Texas now and the roads are no doubt much smoother than anything in the North. I love my Ridgeback down here but if I had to move back I do not think it would get near the use I get now out of it. It would just be too much planning making sure you only hit smooth roads. I would have to add a K9 to the stable, I'll never get rid of the Rigid so 2 BDM's it is

Potholes will definitely shake your teeth out, tough on the back and butt.. Smooth roads are great, no trail riding at all.

Ridgebacks Rule!

Not sure about the K9 but I rode a Chopper and Ridgeback within minutes of each other before making my decision... Ridgeback won!:2thumbs:

I'm 62 and wouldn't trade the road feel for what little suspension you get.:loony

How does it ride? LIKE IT'S ON RAILS!!:whoop:

Happy Motoring!

P.S. - Nukeranger, you stole my line!

Do the gel seats really make a big difference on the ridgeback or just a nice addition if you have the cash to spare ?

I had a Ridgeback and I miss that bike more than any other. If you hit a good bump you could get airborne, but it wasn't all that bad. If possible you should drive someone's. The rigid fender look is fantastic but if you ain't comfortable it ain't worth it.

I had a gel seat in mine and it didn't make a tremendous difference. More comfortable when riding but not a shock absorber.

Seatmaker on this site made it. It was fantastic.
