Broken Frame!!!!!!!

Okay so I posted last week about my belt jumping teeth after all your help I ended up tightening the belt as much as possible, the jumping stopped for about a week then started again so I jacked up yhe bike to go over everything again and noticed that the frame was cracked in two just below the right strut and directly behind the battery box. My question at this point would be has this every happened to anyone else and did you just weld it back or not.?? I dont know why this has happened its an 05 Mastiff with only 17000 miles and I'm the origanal owner, It really has been babied and not abused... Dont get it???

No have nto seen nor heard of that. Does not look good, maybe able to be fixed with a very confident welder, but would be best IMHO to get a new piece and replace it. Have you hit any really bad rough spots in the road like a major pot hole or anything?

Holy crap, you you say broken you mean broken! Never seen anything like that on a bike.

I broke my frame back in 08. Broke above yours though. BDM replaced my RT frame with a BDM frame.
If I'm not mistaking when the went under they still have a requirement to cover these things for 7 years. Send those pictures to BD and see what they say

Duct tape and bailing wire should fix you right up. :hi::roll:

Seriously, if you try to fix it, send it back and get them to replace both side plates.

I say weld it if you know a good shop that can. TIG is best, but the metal will need to be cleaned up good. If you can get to both sides, that's best to do as well. You have any pics of this damage? If you were closer, I would say bring it to me :)

My vote would be for welding. But, if you get a new frame, then you can sell the broken one or leave it with the spare parts in the attic!

i am no structual engineer but its pretty hard to snap metal that thick -- guessing that particular part of the frame (or more than that area -) was not heat treated correctly when first bent/cast at the foundry,,, imho i would replace as well as look for something else on the bike that could have caused that continuous stress/vibration to make that break,,,

Wow - however you handle the repair, you are lucky you found it before something happened while riding.
