Cam / Ignition Timing

Am I right in saying that you cannot adjust the timing on the stock ignition on a Big Dog? I am soon to be upgrading to a .650 lift Woods cam and was wondering if the lack of ability to adjust the timing will result in not getting the full benefits out of the new cam?

Yeah the stock ignition curve is nonadjustable. I have no idea what the stock curve is but it appears to be adequate for most streetable mods though I'll say the deeper you get into motor mods like heads and bigger cams an adjustable ignition starts to make more sense for maximum output.

Yeah its not adjustable. It has also been "theorized" by some that the ignition may contribute to some problems with the EHC. How many people that have run a aftermarket ignition have had any problems with their EHC?

Beyond that, if you decide you want an aftermarket ignition you will need to either get a crane hi4C (other brand similar) and a laptop to adjust or the standard crane hi4 will need a new cam cover and a pickup cup.

The only thing the EHC does for the ignition, is supply 12v too it. Other than that it is a curcuit of its own.
