1999 ProSport Signal Issues

Recently purchased a 1999 ProSport and wondering:
Signal lights
- after start-up and pull away with-in a minute or so 4 ways will start flashing, I will cancel by pushing both turn signal buttons at same time
- while riding and signal a left or right turn, usually 4 ways will come on instead of just the signal I pushed
- if I activate the 4 ways first, cancel and than push button for the way I want to turn the signal will work as expected
- if bike not running signals function as expected
- when activated turn signals only flash for approximately 5 seconds and than cancel, moving or not moving at a traffic light
- is it possible to have the signal stay active for a longer time span?

I'm not a mechanic, just love to ride.
Any advice on what to look at or what may need replaced in simple terms.
I appreciate your help with these questions and interested in your thoughts?

look for a short where the handlebar wires run down and pass under the tank

Welcome, Don. Also trace the wires all the back to under your seat if you can't find the disconnect before that.

Took bike to a local shop to trouble shoot.
Found bad block where all the different wires come together under the dash, called Thunder-Heart and Wire Plus, neither company recognized the item number on the existing part.
Replaced with a Thunder-Heart EHC. All signals and lights now function properly.
Iron Horse Repair in Gettysburg, PA did the work and I think they did an awesome job!
