X2, Had the same problem.Sounds like it's running lean; if the above doesn't do the trick, tune the carb. See the threads on this forum for help, of visit the S&S website.
I fill your pain. My 02 Pit has started doing it. Drives me nuts. I changed out the plugs Saturday and put about 50 miles on it and had no backfires and pops. Going to see if it starts back. If it does going to see how many miles I got on the new plugs. I'll pull the plugs and take a look at them to see if it's lean. If so, going to see what size jets the shop put in it while I was in ABQ, New Mexico working for a year. I think I need to re-jet since I'm back home on SC cause I never had the issue to I brought the bike back home. I'm running Vance & Hines 2 into 2 on mine.My 08 ridgeback backfires and pops only when i let off the throttle pulls strong great idle wondering if anyone may know how to fix this thanks
Going from New Mexico to S.C. there is a difference in altitude.I fill your pain. My 02 Pit has started doing it. Drives me nuts. +1Lean = decel pop! As said above check your exhaust flange nuts, Bottom flange bolts 20 in lbs then top 20 in lb, then bottom 60-80 in lbs, then top bolt 60-80 in lbs. If this doesn't stop the pop then richen up your mixture screw a little, if you can't tune it out with the mixture screw then may have to go up a jet size.
True but most 117's I've seen have decel pop. Just the nature of a high performance beast! I've tried jetting mine to death but it still pops. Even tried different exhaust, torque cones, baffles, etc. still pops. I decided to accept it & enjoy the ride!As S&S says a properly tuned carb will give you decel pop. You can fatten it up and detune it to make it stop, but thats your choice. Do a search for decel pop and you'll find plenty to read.....
