Desperate peg help (Please)

Hello fellow BD Members,

Question for all you guys and gals that may be able to help a non-mechanical guy out.

I have a pretty much stock 99 BD Pitbull and I am having a heck of a time finding a set of pegs for my Thunder Heart forward controls. I have tried Supreme Legends, Novello’s, Milwaukee Twins and a couple other brands.

The set I have know are mixed matched and look like shit, the problem lies in when ever I put the new pegs in they just flop down and do not catch on the lip to keep them horizontal.

Is there a part I need to get, new clevis? I contacted Thunder Heart and they said they look like they had been modified. Really don’t have the cash for a new set of forward controls as I just got laid off last week.

I put a few photos up so you can see and perhaps guide me into a cheap or fixable (part # or what ever) solution.

I don't know much about the 99's, but I would try giving Big Dog Performance a call. 316-267-9121. If they don't have something, they can probably point you in the right direction.

find someone who welds aluminium and let em have a look. they should be able to get them working properly for cheap.Just ask for a quote up front.

Take it off and carry it to your local Harley shop. From the picture, they look like stock Harley passenger pegs.worth a try.Just take both peices.

Agreed looks like passenger pegs.

The top is rounded so they will flip up and the bottom is machined flat so it won't flop down.

Here is an example - Note the rounded off side faces up and the flat side faces down to catch on the inside of the clevis.

Now I'm not sure but harley passenger pegs may be slightler thinner than what you have there so I would just by a couple spacers to take up the extra slack :up:. You can buy a set on ebay for $30

I have tried all the front pegs from the makers above and all look like that rounded on top and flat on bottom....my problem seems to be the bottom "lip" is not long enough and they still flip down.

Not sure if that clears up my lame explanation above......

I see what you are saying Bruce....I would take them to machine shop and have them weld in some extra material so the flat bottom will catch.

Catch my drift? Some lame shop should be able to weld in a piece of scrap metal for a few bucks. Should fix your problem and you won't see it so who cares if it looks cheap.

Just thinking this through again but if you have a couple sets of pegs laying around which it seems like you do, how much of a gap is there between the flat side and the inside of the clevis? Could you just drill in a small sheet metal screw on the botom of the flat side and that would be enough to catch it? That should extend it by 1/4" or so.

These are the harley passenger pegs that I have. You are more than welcome to have them. Looks like you will have to cut the clevis back to the same length as your stock and get new shorter bolts.

Don't even get me started...I have a 2001 Mastiff with same pegs. Harley or no one else I could find will fit. The "male" part of the pet is much longer and thicker than others. Another proprietary shit deal. You might call old BD dealers and see if they have some on the shelf in stock. If you find any let me know. I got pissed and tired of looking.

that is not the stock clevis in your picture......i believe it is a kuryaken.....it should accept any harley peg
