I have a 2003 Mastiff with a S&S 117, G model carb. & Hypercharger air cleaner. I bought a set of Bendz pipes from Hacker Custom Exhaust. They recomend changing jets when you install their pipes. I don't have a clue what to change them to. Any advice or is it mostly trial & error? Tried emailing Hacker but so far no response. HELP!!! Torch

03, 117? Didn't know that was an option in 03.

Trial and Error. I would go ahead and start her up and see how your current jets react to the new exhaust. Might want to do a quick carb adjustment idle/air/accelerator before you ride to make sure its all a good!

Throw some new plugs in there and take a ride check the color when you get back. Get on it a bit and see how it goes. If you get a little sneezing out of the carb your prob running a bit lean. If the new plugs are black she's running rich. Nice golden brown color is what your going for

Oh do a search for "How to Jet your Carb" in the forum its got pictures and lots of detail topic has been discussed in length

Thought I would share the reply from Ronnie Hacker @ Hacker Custom Exhaust. Thanks Eric for your thoughts, I'm fixin to put these bad boys on & see what they sound & perform like.

Dave,

Sorry, yes I am busy, but we are having problem with AT&T internet service, we have very sporadic internet service for the last few days.

Use your stock jets to see if your bike is running OK. Look for either back firing or black smoke, if your bike is not running OK, then its time worry about jetting, but for the record I would start with an 80 main and a 36 intermediate jet, assuming this is a stock Big Dog.

Thanks

Oh yea almost fergot, Chris raised some doubt about it being a 117 motor. I was going off what the previous owner said & a cover on the motor. Any easy way to tell short of tearing it down? Thanks again Torch

That seems like a lot of intermediate jet for only a an ac and pipe swap.
36??? There are guys on here with decked heads running 600's,640's and 650 Cam sizes and PSI or XXX carbs and they are not using a 36

80 is hair too big in my opinion on the main too for a 107, try a 78.

Guy just told you the max sizes, sure it will probably run and you will burn extra fuel and your plugs will be black as hell.

Regardless, start with what you got and see what happens.

Emailed S&S today they said:

That is a 107" that left here unassembled back in 03. Big Dog purchased the engine parts then put the engines together themselves. They also used some components that were not S&S. Definitely not a 117" it's a 107"

Thanks,

Thanks to everyone for all the advise I'll put on a picture when they are mounted Torch
