First Post- Anyone trade their BDM for a dresser?

I know this is a post that will probably get me beaten with a pipe wrench...but I am not new to the BDM scene, just fading from it.
As the kids get older I find less time to ride, but when I do it typically involves taking one of the kids with me, or running errands. A 5 hour afternoon ride with the guys is a thing of the past...for now.

I sold my FXST to get an '03 Chopper back in '05 because I liked the look and stretch of a chopper (I'm 6'4").
The rough ride, temperamental S&S Shorty, frame scraping, and unwillingness for the starter to sometimes turn the engine over were just traits that made my bike 'unique' compared to all the vanilla Harley's.

Anyway, I am thinking of getting back into a Harley. :loony:
I would sell my Chopp to get an FLHX.

Has anyone done this and if so, thoughts? I am just wondering if the ride, dependability, and storage will overshadow the blandness and small upright riding position of a Harley bagger.

Thanks guys!

There are pros and cons to both as you know. Only you can evaluate what is more important to you. Unless you can afford both, you need to define the qualities most important in your scoot. Practicality is high on the list - this coming from a 2 chopper guy, so its not as high as some other points for me.

Sounds like you are getting ready for another scoop of vanilla!

I have both. It is like comparing apples to oranges.

Both have different functions and will still get you to the places you want to go

This is what I am afraid of.
I dumped over $20K in addition to the cost of an FXST and it still looked bolted on compared to the Big Dog. Even a $30K Screamin Eagle Harley looks assembly line in nature. JMO

I would go with both. But let's say my garages are full to the hilt with toys. If you can enjoy it, I probably have it. Well...all besides a bagger.

Dude, I understand where your coming from. I now have 3 scoots and it's not enough. I guess lucky for me I have a strong willed wife to keep me somewhat in check.
Do what fits your family needs, don't listen to everyone's viewpoint, they're like assholes they all stink.

I wish I had more money.
We do have a couple two or three guys who made the switch. Coach switched. Bbc bought a bagger to go along with his BD. Im sure there are more than that. Do your thing. Make the switch if it's a must. You'll take a shot in the wallet on the dog right now too. How about holding onto the dog for a bit and testing the water? When you are sure that's the move you want to make do it.

gasman completely rebuilt his chopper (called it Phoenix, check out the LOOONG thread) and shortly thereafter sold it and bought a bagger.

And I could get bashed for this responce... I would never buy a Harley!
I have the Dog, which is a fun noisy ride... Then I have my Honda Goldwing GL1800, (a sport bike on steriods!), can ride 900 miles in a day and plenty of storage. I feel I truly have the best of both worlds!

I sold my Ridgback shortly after I bought my Ultra Limited, I thought I wouldn't be riding it much. 4 months later I was missing the Ridge so I ended up getting a new K9. The only thing that came out of that is someone else got a nice Ridgeback from me.

I'm getting older & kept loseing my Black FLHX at bike week. Now with a White K-9, it never gets lost in a crowd (kidding).

Do what you like but I don't think I'll be going back.

Now right there is the best of both worlds :whoop:.I have both also, but,no one can make that decision for you.It all depends on what you want, when i ride distance the dog is parked and out comes the vanilla bagger .

Wow, thanks guys! You know back in the day had I posted this question on clubchopper I would have been threatened by a 'true 1%' that I would be lit on fire along with my 'fake chopper'.

Anyway, I can see what you guys are saying. If my riding time is limited, why not get something that is fun to ride?! I am afraid that if I do sell my chopp (my favorite bike owned thus far) and get another Harley...I will feel disappointed into being back where I was 7 years ago.

Thanks for the input. And FWIW, just looking at a pic of a Chopp above a bagger makes me wonder what the hell I am even thinking.
