Exhaust Flange Bolt

Taking off my stock exhaust tonight the Nut didn't seem to want to come off. After applying some elbow grese I ended up loosening the bolt out of the cylinder head. Luckily no damage, and the threads into the cylinder head look great! The nut side on the other hand is not worth using again.

I searched on ebay for Exhaust Flange Bolt and didn't get any hits  does anyone know where I can snag one quickly? I assume these are stocked at Dealers, seems like a fairly used part? Run down to Strokers and pick up a couple new bolts/nuts?

Now to thread in the new bolt, I assume apply Red Locktite. But should I just tighten it into the cylinder head with the new nut and exhaust flange. Or is there a different process for this? IE thread into cylinder head and wait for 20 min for Locktite, then flange and bolt?

Thanks just don't want to F up my heads.

I had one come out like that. Jambed 2 nuts togehter on the stud and reinstalled it into the cylinder head tighter than the torques specs for the flange nuts. Then I put antiseize on the new flange nuts that I installed and torqued to specs. Don't have my book in front of me but doesn't call for very much torque.

Loktite would worry me if vor some reason the stud broke and you had to get the broken pc out.

More answers here ya'll?

Exhaust Flange to Head is 18ft-lbs and they recommend Anti-Seize. I got that from the manual :D

Did you end up having to get a new one or could you salvage your old one? Mine is obviously trashed. I'm searching all over S&S website and can't find them selling these things.

I like your idea with the two nuts . So no locktite? Red might not hold up anyways due to the temp of those heads?

Eric, V is on the right track.
I have had several come loose over the years of owning Sporties and Evo's, no biggy.
By all means use a Loctite product, but before you apply use contact cleaner on both parts put the 2 nuts on as V stated apply 1 dot of BLUE stud locker to the thread and crank it home to very firm, Don't over tighten as you may strip the head.
Now if by some freaky shit and the stud breaks later just drill the centre of the stud out apply some heat via oxy act or small gas burner to the stud and use an easy-out to extract broken stud.

Good luck

To me it looks like a standard carburetor to intake manifold stud from an older 60's or 70's style V8. If it is, you should be able to locate one at the local auto parts store.

I bought some at the HD dealership 2 weeks ago, I had the same problem. $3.95 each I bought some spares.

Don't use the lock tight. It's what I was told also because the cost to get that removed if it brakes is a lot I was told. If you can't find any let me know and I'll send you one if you need it.

2006 service manual states for exhaust studs 90 inch pounds of torque and Loctite 2760 (red).
Is that the Big Dog manual? I dont see it in the S&S Manual

90 inch lbs is about 7-8 ft/lbs which would make sense. At first I thought you said 90 ft/lbs and thought you were CRAZY

Called Strokers Tom says they have them in stock so hopefully I can shoot over this afternoon.

Any shop/dealer will have them--standard harley part. I've never used locktite, just anti-seize to prevent galling. As has been said, don't over torque to prevent damaging the jugs. I keep some spare nuts around as well.
