Please help, no start w/ fast buzzing / clicking

Alright, I’m reaching out after reading and searching and coming up a little short, except for a headache.

2006 Chopper, parked it last fall with no issues. Pulled it out today and started going over a few things and got to the point of starting the girl and all I get is a fast buzzing or clicking sound.

Battery connections have been cleaned and are tight.

Battery reads 12.5

Green wire at the starter reads 9 and when you hit the starter it goes to about 12.5

When you turn the key the speedo does its normal sweep.

Hit the “run” switch and the red ignition light comes on, on the EHC and no other lights come on, which is good.

Hit the starter button, headlight goes out and the fast buzzing or fast clicking begins.

The starter solenoid contacts have been cleaned as well.

Is the 12.5 volts on the battery too low????

Possible broken starter shaft???

Anyways, any and all help appreciated and if your remotely close, beer is on me!!!

HELP

Where o's the buzz or clicking sound coming from?
Ooops sorry about that, it's coming from the starter area. The more I read, I'm wondering if it's just the battery or a broken starter shaft?

The battery sitting is at 12.5 and the manual says no less then 12.8. Didn't think that would make that much difference but considering how sensitive these dogs are, you never know. Plus I have not done a load test yet either.

The battery is ALWAYS on a tender when not riding and pulled during the winter, but it is the original one, which has me leaning towards battery even with a good standing reading??????

I wish I had more money.
How old is the battery? Is it a dead battery trying to engage the starter click like on a car? Clickclickclickclick? Or click click click? Like this?
Check out this video on YouTube:

Or single click?
Sorry for the goofy ass questions? Just wondering if the click o's actually starter or comp. releases?

I agree with the others your battery is going south when you put a load to it...

Definitely the fast click.

I was leaning towards battery but you know how it is, sometimes you just second guess yourself and drive yourself nuts!!

Just ordered a battery, so hopefully we'll be back in business in a few days!! :2thumbs:

It's awesome to be able to have a group of people to look to when in need or just for some reassurance.

BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE!!!!!!!!

Pretty sure it's the battery. I had the old battery on the tender over night and checked it and had a reading of 12.7. Hit the starter and it actually swung for about a second and then the dreaded fast clicking / buzzing.

Not even going to bother with a load test, the new battery is on the way and should be here by Friday. Bad part is I leave for a week in Mexico on Friday morning, o darn. Just kinda sucks I'll have to wait a week to make sure that's what the problem was. I'll be Keeping my fingers crossed and drinking to forget about it tell I get home!!!!

Thanks again to everyone!! and I'll let ya know how it turns out.

Glad to see that you're up and running again! For piece of mind, I would check the volts at the battery with the scoot running to make sure your charging system is sending enough juice to keep that new battery living for a couple of years... :D :2thumbs: Just saying...
