I took my Chopper to Spencers in Belleville when I first bought it used. I told them it runs good but I want to make sure it is running as good as it can. They have a dyno there so that was the main reason i brought it to them. After a week I called them and they said it wouldn't fit on the dyno but they vented the gas tank and re-jetted. Then he said the front caliper is leaking and needs to be re-built. I asked how much, he said about $200 and I said that's ok, I'll do it myself. He said well then it is not safe for us to test ride so I can guarantee it is tuned properly. Like an idiot I gave in.
First off I'm sure they new my bike wouldn't fit on the dyno the day I dropped it off!
So $600 later I go to pick up my bike, they open the door and roll it out, they go back in and pull the door down. Guess what, dead battery!!!!! Walk back through the store front, they open the door, pull the bike back in and put a charger on it. After the ride home the first thing I did was look up how to adjust s&s carb because it was running like shit!
Since then, with much help from this forum, I'm the only one working on my bike.
Things I've done are:
1.Wire-plus
2.Final drive belt witch to do you have to remove the entire primary including the clutch assembly. The swing arm had to come off also.
3.Throw out bearing for clutch.
4.Front tire.
5.My bike is an 04 but with a little modification I installed 05 struts and Sissy bar because they where easier to find and I think the sissy bar looks better on 05.
And other little stuff.
The point is if you own one of these bikes you will save a lot of money an aggravation if you learn to do it yourself. Plus it feels GREAT when you get back on the road because of the work you did.
