go to the forums and search for fork oil change. Most people take them off and invert to drain oil. Ihaven't done this myself.

Pull the front wheel. Reach up inside the bottom of the fork with an allen wrench. Should find a plug.

thing is, it's not just the oil that you have to worry about. the more important parts are the bushings inside the forks if they have 8500 or more miles on them. have thin layer of teflon on them to minimize wear and when that teflon is gone, the inside of the tubes get chewed up real fast. best in this situation is to break them down and do a replace if necessary. good luck. (the book says 10k but when i did mine at 8.5k they were right at ready to change)

There is a couple of end caps on the bottom of the fork tubes that have a set screw that comes in from the wheel side of the forks. Remove it then the cap after u remove the tire of course. A 6mm hex wrench up into the bottom of the forks will remove the plug.

Glad I followed on this one. Thanks to you Tom! I did the fork oil when I bought it at 10K miles but didn't do a complete R&R. Well over 15K now. Thinkin' it's time.

Did my frork rebuild last Saturday, (seals, bushings, washers) only takes about 2 hours.
I did not put 30 weight oil in as BDM recomends, I accually went with like 15 weight. 15 weight? I mixed 20 weight with 10 wieght that I had leftover from other builds. Ride is nice not swirly or too stiff.

when i did mine, used 20wt and it just seems too weak. forks compress too quickly and just doesn't have the rebound that the 30 wt. has. will go back to 30 wt. when done again. yes, on smooth road it is good but just not as responsive. mho.

Between your k9 and my mastiff, there is some major geometry differences. I drive pretty agressive at times, airborn, peg and pipe scrapes, I like the way it is much better now then before the change. The bike always seemed to be too stiff in the front end, hit bumps really hard, broke my damn headlight mounting bolt, though that's not uncommon.
Oh well, time will tell, I can always change it out again..... easy enough.

I have the forks apart as we speak and with only 4000 on the bushings I'll be changing them so I do not have to take it apart again. The fork oil looked fairly clean during disassembly ....

ya, definitely depends on what model and the style of riding. will be good for others with pro-street to hear your assessment of the front end. will assist in making educated decision.
