Electrical Gremlins

Okay, I know you guys have heard this before but I have a friend, yes it is really a friend of mine and NOT me who has been having electrical gremlins on his 07 K9.

A few months ago he had a local mechanic take a look at his problems. Well the mech. did a total rewire of his BD. Removed the EHC and totally went through the entire bike.

After finally getting his bike back it ran fine for a few days until it completely shut-down a few miles from home.

Brought the bike back to the mech to have a look and saw that his brand new battery was damaged. The small sides looked to have sunken inwards:rant:

Mech says his wiring is good but my buddy doesn't know what to believe. He asked me to come to the forum to quiz you guys for a clue.

Does anyone have an idea on where to go next? I know that I have left out alot of the technical data, but I am not sure of exactly what was replaced. I believe he used alot of HD parts/wiring and an S&S computer module.

Thanks in advance. I know you guys are the only people to go to for good sound advice.

Sides sunken in!:eek: Tell him to put in a new battery and see if it will start up. If so check the voltage at the battery should be around 13 to 14 volts. Then come back and tell us the results.:job:

I'm with RRUFF on this one! When your friend had his bike re-wired, do you know if the circuit breaker was removed?

Sunk in battery doesn't sound good. But u can always get the schematics to whatever wiring harness he used and check it out for urself. Ohm out the wires and make sure everything is isolated from ground.

He should also make sure he has the right battery (i.e. not too tall) and the seat is not hitting/crushing the top/terminals.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I am making a list of every suggestion here to give to my buddy. I will try to get his bill to see exactly what he paid for.

I should have mentioned that he probably damaged his battery. These bikes eat batteries! I noted today that my Braille is starting to act up. It is my fault too. I left the ignition on a while back and didn't notice it until a few hours later when I walked in the garage and the headlight was shining brightly. I am getting ready to replace it and use the installed one for a generator. They certainly aren't deep cycle batteries.:bang:

PS, if Audie doesn't get his bike fixed up, I bet we could work on it for almost free and learn a lot about these bikes.:D

I do and did and done my best to maintain the Braille. I think a cell is failing. I've seen this happen on another bike I own (Good one minute and bam, it would not perform).

Oops, I think I had a bad battery connection. I took the battery out, charged it, and did several load tests sat. I am going to ride my Triumph this week which leaves me plenty of time to do more load tests. I do 3 or 4 back to back with a minute or two between. Then I charge using a Genius charger (Must be smart - right?). The battery is still under warranty. I'll find out if it is good. If it is, I am putting it back in after I clean all the connections. It may have had something to do with the loctite tape I used to keep the ring lugs bolts secure so I cleaned them up and will do something different since it is a constant problem with keeping these things tight.

So,long story short, a Braille B2015 is a good battery. I do my load tests at 450 CCAs

For a pot of Jambalya, I'll take vacation next week and work on his bike every day!:whoop:
