I have a 2010 k-9, been thinking about putting apes on the bike. Looking for the pros&cons of doing this, maybe some pictures if anyone else has done this. Also is this a do it your self project or take it to a shop......

Thanks........ Buck Naked:flag:

On the serious side, if you get your hands above your shoulders, you will see the error of you ways on the very first long ride. If all you do is short hops, the numb hands don't hit until you ride over 15 minutes.

Not really my style either, Five - just saw this bike at the dealer one day and snapped these photos.

First thing that you notice is that they skipped the hassle of all the wiring for the speedo and tach and gauge cluster. Not my style either, numb hands are not my thing.

I had 16" apes on my HD Heritage and not only did they look "killer",but I had zero problems with this numb hands situation(and this was after back surgery) and I could maneuver the bike just as easily as I did with drag bars. Most who don't like them haven't had them!!! JUS SAYIN!

I totally agree they look a hell of a lot better than I thought.

Other than the extra effort to manuver the bike around a parking lot. I think the only other thing you gotta be cautious of and moreso on a bigdog since the saddle is typically lower than HD's is that some states have regulations on bar height. Typically hands can't be higher than your shoulders. If memory serves me right I think South Dakota is one of them states, so if you take your bike to Sturgis you might get some extra unwanted attention.

Check out this site for the restrictions by state: http://university.apehangers.org/hbarlaw.php
