Wiring question

I am in the process of installing the BDM harness w/PDM to eliminate the EHC. When I pulled the fuel tank I noticed two wires that were rubbing and almost completely severed. Both wires are to the compression releases (Green and Black). I decided to cut the shield back and splice the wire when I discovered one of them was rubbed through the shield for several inches (6-7) exposing the conductor. Now I do not believe splicing is an option. The damaged wire are the legs fron the head to the backbone so they are not replaced with the new harness. Next I thought I would replace the damaged legs but not sure if I can order for BDM but will call. Secondly, I have no clue as to how they connect to the head/release. I am open for all ideas/suggestions/options!

I'm all about the heat shrink tube, liquid or electrical tape but not when the conductors are almost completely compromised in several locations. I guess I will attempt to splice/solder then heat shrink. The wires have to be cut in and case to add the heat shrink over the connector. I would prefer to repalce both leg wires but I think that would be a real pain and not sure it is worth it.
Has anyone covered their harness with a thin layer of rubber sheating before mounting the tank? I wonder it that would help?

Not sure, but I would also try the heat shrink if it is just one wire. Depending on the size of the heat shrink, you may able to get a peice that will fit over the very small connector going to the CR and still have it shrink enough to cover the chaffed part. Possibly even cover that part with a peice of electical tape and then get a piece of heat shrink that will go barely go over the cononector and with the extra layer of tape on the wire, when the shrink is heated, should shrink enough to seal it good.

The other idea is like you mentioned, cut out the bad section and replace with new section soldered in and heat shrink.

Good luck and when you get it setled out, make sure you secure the wires good so that they do not rub or chaff as easy in the future. A little woven braiding cover would not hurt. Also be careful not to put the wires in to much of bend or strain.

earl, looks like the braided cover was the culprit for the chafing in this instance.

Thanks Guys. I am going to attempt to splice the bad section because the conducto is completly compromised in two locations near the connector. The other chaffing involves only the pvc insulation. That I will repair. Does anyone know where I can purchase a pin extractor for these small pins? I would like to remove the connector and solder a section in and would prefer to crimp a new piece in with a new pin but I can not fine them anywhere; Radio Shack or Auto Parts Stores. I do have an extractor but it is too large. I know, my wife does not think so!
