Vibration with passenger!

Hey guys I was out riding all weekend and having a great time, until I decided to take the wife out with me, before she was on the bike it has been running unbeliveable, just fricken awsome, anyway as soon as I get her on the bike I notice that there is alot more vibration and the power is definatally less, I mean I don't think 150 lbs more on the bike should make that much difference!, anyway I was wondering if anyone else has noticed anything like this with there bike, and as soon as she got off the bike it was back to running like a champ, just seemed wierd to me, thanks for any feedback.

I know the feeling your wife need to get a new scale  .

Just kidding man, It shouldn't make that much difference especially in the lower gears. Check you motor mounts make sure they are not loose. If that is not the problem then I would say leave the wife at home :D

Ha,ha that's fricken hilarious, I should expect no less from you guys! anyway I checked all the motor mounts and air pressure is good.

Should not be a problem, however even with a little more load it will not have the acceleration and get up and go as it would with lighter load. That said if you are getting vibration and the motor mounts are good, make sure that you adjust the tire pressure. What are you running with the passenger, did you adjust at all the pressure or jsut say hey it is still good.

Barring that, may want to check out the shocks and see if they are getting work out and the extra load is amplifiying such even more.

Last (and IMHO best) leave her off, let her go get her own license and boiek and then join you on her own. What my wife did and it worked out best for us both and she makes an excellent and dependable riding partner and if we have to stop over night, helps keep me warm and me her and happy for both!

Does it vibrate only on acceleration, How about when your rolling and pull the clutch in, does it still vibrate? Did you check the top motor mount and wheel bearings?

Yeah, don't ride alone if that's what you and your spouse like!:whoop: Check those motor mounts like others mentioned.

I would check out these areas:

1. Rear tire pressure
2. Rear wheel bearings
3. Rear tire balancing
4. Tight suspension points
5. Good condition swingarm bushings
6. Proper rear belt tension and alignment (with rider)
7. Make sure the rear fender struts have the stronger bolts (8-point)
There was a safety recall on later models for breaking bolts.
8. Not sure if the 2005 model had the intake manifold restrictors in it.
9. Always use the highest octane at the pump
10. Run some Seafoam additive through a tank of fuel

Enjoy the ride!

:eek:That covers everything.:2thumbs:

I wish I had more money.
One more thing. Where do you ride in the rpm range? If you keep the rpm's low it may be causing a slight "lug" condition. You may try to keep it up in the range a bit. Just a thought.

Thanks for the all the pointers but I am pretty sure it is in the engine, when I ride it is generally in the 2500 to 3000 rpm range and if I am cruising along and pull the clutch in and coast, the vibration is gone, so that tells me that it must be in the engine, even when I ride alone there is a slight vibration in the same RPM range, starts at 2500 and stops around 3000 or so, it is not very bad when I am by myself, when I add a passenger thats when it is really noticable, I just am not that sure on what could cause something like that, Cam, Clutch, Primary Drive, etc? I don't know, anyway thanks again for all the help guys, and like Fibersnake said, maybe the best option is to get her a bike and have her ride along with me instead!

Check ALL motor mount and trans mount bolts for proper torque.

Could be a clutch basket failure and or a clutch nut loosening up.

I was going to say check the tire pressure, my dumb ass has been riding my girl around and bottoming out occasionally, I innocently suggested a little excercise might help, boy what a mistake that was. Anyway I check the tire pressure, only 15 psi, not only am I in the dog house, I now need a new tire.

Okay, now we have something to go on. Check the plugs on you dog and 50 cents says they are as black as well diggers ass. It sounds like you are running on the rich side. I don't know what exhaust and air cleaner you are running but your combo might not be setup right. Check you intermediate Jet and see if going down on step won't make things better. Then check your main jet by rolling from say 50 to 70 MPH in (4th or 5th gear) if it goes good your Okay, if it hesitates you are to fat, if it pops and bucks you need to take it up one step. You also need to adjust you accelerator pump.

Hope that Helps
