2000 Husky questions??

Hi All,

Just put a deposit on 2000 Husky and have some questions?

1) Has the 107 changed from the one S & S sells today? Cam & compression?

2) Can the 2000 Husky be lowered?

3) are the rear shocks the same as HD softails?

4) is there a service or wiring manual available for the Bike?

5) Is there any different rear fenders?

6) any chance to get a paint code for the bike like you can do with cars?

Thanks,

Hi Dan O,
The only think that I can tell you is that BDM has a 2004 and prior years service manual available. There is NO listing for a 2000 Husky in any of my parts listings.

Paint codes may be able to be determined from your VIN and Project Number, but there's no telling how long BDM keeps that info.

Generally any bike "can" be lowered, its just the PITA factor that you need to consider ( Pain In The Ass )

Hey Nelson, not to highjack the thread, but this makes me wonder if you have listings for parts for my 02' Prosport or are those considered obsolete (spelling?) as well?

Nope .. you're good. Have both the Parts and Accessories listings for you.

BDM may have other info on the 2000 models, but the listings that I have only go back to '01

Thanks Nelson for your answers!

Anyone know if the rod end on the shock can be unscrewed like older HD softail shocks could be done? I remember long ago we would take the rodend off and add two washers, put it back together and it would lower the bike 1.5 inches, with little effect on ride quality

I'm sure someone has an older BDM with a 107 Super Stock that can tell me if this is the same engine S & S sells today? and if its different then maybe someone could tell me what cam is in the 2000 107 and what's the compression ratio, I'm a mechanic by trade so I can't leave well enough alone and will be doing some mods!!

The 107 inch is all good. Should have the S&S 600 lift cam. Back then EPA wasn't as much as issue than it is today. That wolf can probably take any stock Big Dog today. My 04 Boxer had the 525 cam. (has the 107)

:flag: dinosrs, good luck! thats a really nice bike,I've recently purchased my sons 2001 Prosport and I have had one helluva time finding straight answers about what fits the bike. I hope you have MUCH better luck than I have, maybe the fact that its a softtail will help you. My son and I have been to many bike weeks and always spend a lot of time in S&S tents, they were always helpful and informative, don't hesitate to contact them. Amusingly I just e-mailed BDM this eve about how I can find what parts that fit my bike.I am NOT trying to put anyone down at all but a rubber mount vs. a solid mount DO NOT match at all. Woodysan:2thumbs: I'll get some flak over this,I'm sure. Oh Well!:2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

I had one before my K9. Hauled ass = shorty's and 600 cams.

I put a 250 fat tire swing arm conversion on mine & custom paint - there's a pix of it somewhere on here..

Yes, you can lower it by turning the nuts on the shocks, you don't have to remove them off the bike. But if you need to change them, they require a non-standard size shock. There's a guy on ebay who sells them every week. American Motorcycle Parts, Keyword = Big Dog. Wires and all else is stock HD set up.

Thaks all for the answers, I looked under the bike and did not see adjustable rodends (ie like white Bros adjustable early softail) I know what that looks like and I was hoping to look under the bike and see they were adjustable.

So by saying stock HD setup would that mean I could order a solo seat for a softail?? or if I were looking for different pipes I would also just order for an HD softail?

My other question is who makes the frame? I'm interested in puting a bob fender.

Dan,

My understanding is that my Prosport and your Husky are similar in a lot of ways.

I am not sure who makes your frame or mine for that matter, but my understanding of our bikes is that we can use any exhaust that is standardized for the HD Softail models of comparable years. :whoop:

I would get as much clarification on the seat and frame as possible before making any purchases.

I bought a 2-up seat for my Prosport that will only fit "up to" 01' frames. Now I have a seat that doesn't fit my bike. :bang:

Everyone on here is great and I promise you one thing, if there are answers to be had, you will find them here. :2thumbs:

Pipes:

:flag: If you put softail pipes on a rubber mount they'll crack. My 2001 Prosport has a Daytec frame as with many earlier Big Dogs, please read your owners manual,if not go to BDM website and check it out. The pipes on a rubber mount MUST connect to engine and tranny to isolate from frame not so on softtail. Woody

Thanks Woody...I have gotten conflicting info on this subject. I think because they changed the frames (what I am told) in 02'. With that said, my Kirkers are mounted to my transmission.

I haven't been able to find out what frame I even have at this point.

Do you need a 2-up seat for your 01' withDaytec frame by any chance?

Frame:

:flag: You should have a Daytec Stalker or skalker frame made in CA. they have a website, thats what I have. Yes I agree there is a lot of confusion on this subject,a dead give away is the different wheel bases on pre chopper bikes, you should have a 70.5 in. wheelbase. The Prosport was extended I believe 2" over most other Dogs of that era across the top. Also I just went to BDM site they only go back to 03' with online owners manual, just trying to keep things straight. :hi: :2thumbs: Woody

frame

I was looking at Daytec and Paughco web sites and the Paughco looks more like the Husky at the neck but the swing arm is not close. On the daytec site they for sure look like Titan coyote frames. So I still can not figure out who makes the 2000 Husky frame. Seems like daytec frames are not the Husky by looking at the neck. My interest is to get rid of the back fender that comes on the Husky and put a bob type and would prefer one from the frame manufacture, also this will make is easier to determine how to lower this thing.

If you are looking for a service manual, I've got one that I no longer need. I used to ride an 01 Boxer, I bought the manual, sold the bike and now I ride an 07 K9. I simply have no use for this manual and it's brand new. Let me know.

Now that I think of it, I've probably got some other stuff you might be interested in that will work on your bike.

Here ya go Dan - These are the ones you need:
eBay Motors: WORKS SOFTAIL SHOCKS SMALL DIAMETER CUSTOM BIG DOG USED (item 120220922995 end time Feb-17-08 19:00:00 PST)

They are smaller in diameter - regular ones will hit the frame and the rod ends will not line up. Mine were adjustable, with one rod end having threads.
