Pillion Pads

How much can I trust the suction cups on the pillion pad with no passenger?
Just wondering if these things tend to fly off from time to time.

That’s a good looking bike, it shouldn’t be an issue unless you look like Lurch!:2thumbs:
If you do then well take it off!

Put it in your day tripper or back pack until you pick up your passenger... Easy enough

Unless she looks AWESOME on the tank....:D
I wonder if Ray has any input on that....:)
Hmmm...it sounds like there is an inside joke here! I was actually speaking from experience...I use to ride on the back of my ex-boyfriend's bike without a pillion...had to plan my wardrobe ahead of time to make sure my jeans didn't have too much embellishments on the pockets. And sorry to say, when out in the public I wasn't a 'real girl' and kept my clothes on!

I think these gentlemen are talking about last year when I did a show with my friends Curtis and Ray. Curtis wanted to do a photoshoot for his company and we used Ray's bike. I was posing with the bike and got physically moved into the tank. As soon as it happend, I knew it was bad news. Sure enough my jeans scratched Ray's tank. :( I walked right over to Curtis, buried my head in his chest and started bawling! I felt horrible.

So there you go kids...tales from the road...one I've actually never retold because it breaks my heart...it sounds like someone has retold it before!

With age from the hot and cold and dust, the p-pads really do start to lose their suction but flying off has been known to happen to a new pad too....I know someone who found one in the ditch!

Ray filled us in at BBB this year, but he didn't say who the perpetrator was.

I had a good idea, remembering the pics from the photo shoot though. It was only a $200 paint job anyway, and well worth the hot pictures. :)

use a bungie cord to hold it down..i personally threw mine away my wife refuses to ride on my ridgeback...so instead she is making me buy her a trike....p pad was a hell of alot cheaper...just my opinion.

seems the consensus is to leave the thing in the garage, especially if your the lurch type, which is fine I guess, I like the look with it on. Seems a strange arrangement on such an expensive bike. 2 ups are always an option I suppose.

You got to do what makes you happy dude!:2thumbs:

I like solo but the pad when momma wants to go works for me. I also switch out the sissy bar. Dont like the BDM for looks so I made my own for solo.

I hate the suction cup design.

I have to repolish the round shape scratches out of the fender each time the pad is used. I put felt fabric under the non suction areas and that stopped some of the abrasion caused by the rough material under the seat. I do try to thouroughly clean the fender before placing the pad on so there is no grit but it still scratches

Trying to get the wife to ride the Harley so I don't have to worry about it. She has taken it around the block a few times but I think she just loves the vibration action on the Big Dog.

I know when I was looking at Big Dogs to buy, a lot of folks just left the scratches from the pad on the fender. that hurts me to see.

Any ideas of how to use the pad and not get scratches?

I hope I don't rub through the paint.
