Does anyone know the name of the forum member that specializes in transmissions? Think it's Andrew or something.
What does the Saxon use, Baker? No problem with my bike, working on a Saxon Warlord with a third gear problem.
The Roadmax is actually a very good transmission. It's what American I-H used and that thing is bullet proof. I've only had to rebuild one out of all the I-H I have worked on. I have had to rebuild literally hundreds of the Baker's that are in Bigdogs. Yes it is made in Korea, but everything inside that case is built very solid.FYI: The 2006 Saxon motorcycle uses a Roadmax transmission. Piece of shit from what I see.
I didn't accually take the tranny apart, my "piece of shit" reference came from some information I gathered on forum's and other mechanics. The Roadmax is actually a very good transmission. Yeah it sounds like you might have made the right choice in not buying it. But, if you ever do run into a problem with a Roadmax, it's almost cheaper to buy a whole new Roadmax transmission. You can buy a bolt in 6 spd for around $2200 from what I remember. Like I said, they are very good transmissions. I would buy one over Baker for sure. Plus you can buy 2 or 3 of them for the price Baker wants for theirs. Fixed the rest of the bike for the guy, didn't even run when I got it. When I told him that it was a trans problem and not clutch problem, he offered it to me for $8000, I passed. This guy beat the shit out of this bike, didn't even know how to change the oil or keep up on PM's, said he frequently shifts without using the clutch. That's up shift not down.![]()
