Clutch question

Hey guys, curious as to whether the issue of the clutch hub nut coming loose is common on all years or just the latest dogs? 04 Mastiff and thought I noticed something odd in the shifting on my ride last night. It shifts perfectly up thru the gears but not so well down, sometimes seemingly getting stuck between gears going down. First from neutral has always been hard. Had the bike about 2 months, not sure if this is normal and I'm just paranoid after reading about others issue or if I should be concerned, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Try cleaning and lubricating the heim joints at both ends of the shift linkage and see if that helps with the shifting.

Will do, plan on open it up tomorrow and checking it over. Thanks
The Heim jionts are on the external shifter linkage. Try that and make sure that the foot peg shifter is clean and free as well before you go in to it.

I may have created my problem, in fact I'm sure I did, I adjusted them out several weeks ago to extend the shifter, I'm certain I did not align them well and did not lubricate them at all. As I think about it I did not have this issue prior. Thanks for the help guys!

Sounds like you got it!!! If you ever get over my way we should hook up!

Should I still check the clutch hub nut, or is this not an issue on this year model?
If you back off the heims a turn or two and your shifting goes back to the way it was I would see no reason to dig into the primary. The shift lever will bottom out on the downshift so shortening it a bit sounds like your problem.

The Hub nut issue was on the right hand side drive models typically 07 and later.

Never had a problem with the issue on my 05 but did on my 08.

Just an update and a big thanks!! I cleaned and lubed my frozen heim joints as advised, they were rusty and barely moving, could not believe what a difference it made, shifts like a brand new bike! Thanks guys!!

Clutch hub nut was a problem when BDM went to the proprietary primary. Think it was on 05 and up on most models. The lack of a compensating sprocket causes the clutch hub nut to back off when downshifting hard, least that's my theory.

That was my thought Steve, plus they are a little ruff looking. I saved some of the threads with a link to where I can order them, wonder if there are any local stores that might carry them?
