HELP: Speedo has RPM, but no speed or miles moving???

So rode on saturday and realized speedo was not registering speed or moving odomotoer. However, RPMs work. is it the speed indicator magnetic by rear wheel? I hate to trade out speedo for $250 if its an easy fix, thanks

same thing happened to me. I cleaned the speedo sensor with no luck. I bought a dakota digital from value teck no problems with the speedo since.

Did you let the speedo cycle when you turned the key on? I noticed some times when it is cold out, you have to turn the key off and let the speedo do its full cycle twice.

If the battery is low it will not initialize when you start. Put the battery on a tender. Then try it again. make sure you let the speedo sweep before hitting the start switch.

You may have a broken wire in the system. Check your wiring for cuts or disconnections and clean your speed sensor.

Erl told me this when I had this issue and I didn't listen at first. He was right, it was a low charge. make sure the battery is working well and fully charged.. Thanks Erl

may even have to ride for a few miles so the charging system will do it's job on the battery then stop and shut it down and re-crank it. but be prepared to replace the battery before long.

When mine has done this I simply turn my bike off while riding the key that is and turn it back on and the speedometer sweeps and the speedometer works.
Bike just fires up when the key is turned on so it does not pull any load on the battery, no need to hit the start button and the speedometer works fine..

wow this forum rocks, will try and get back at cha
Remember your tach and speedo are two different units. Check out my How To on installing the Dakota Digital to see how it all comes apart and goes back together.
Also, when you turn the key on does your speedo sweep once then again after the engine starts? If not then you need your EHC flashed. Lots of info here on this

I have had this problem several times, after check most thing everyone is saying, it ended up being broken wire coming out of speedo. you will have to dis-assemble speedo and find broken wires where they are soildered inside casing ( will have to re-solider). I am pretty sure there is a how to on this site about taking speedo apart. you are welcome to call me if you want
