Required CCA?

I see a lot of comments on the different batteries everyone prefers to use in their bikes. I was just wondering how can you find out what is the correct CCA for a 2003 Chopper? When I start my bike with it fully charged I have to hold the start button for 2 to 3 seconds before it turns the engine. The battery I have now has 310cca. Just wondering if it might need more due to the delay in starting. Don't get me wrong the bike always starts just seems to be a little labored? Thanks guys

You got something wrong if it takes 2-3 seconds for the engine to start to turn over.

No compression release operation.
Solenoid contacts are burnt and not allowing good current flow.
Starter windings are shorting out causing too high of current need to turn starter motor.

When I got the bike back in July I had to have a starter put on it so the starter is new. Not sure if this helps narrow it down any though.

I have a new Braille battery and my starter contacts are clean. I push my compression releases down before every start. If the motor is hot the first push is a click. The second push spins the motor over. If the first push does not spin within 1/2 second release and push again. The second push always spins the motor. Why, who cares!

310CCA is enough to get you turned over, however as Bro1 stated you have something other than battery issues if it takes 2 to 3 seconds for the starter to engage...

Make sure the battery connections are clean and tight.

Isn't there a 2 second delay in the system from the time you press the run button until the solenoid will be activated?

Stacey .... I dont think your 03 chopper has compression releases, thats why your bike struggles to get through the compression stroke.... my 03 was the sameway....your question is, whats the required CCA ? answer is as much as you can get...here is the best, 465 CCA

Unless added later, as other have mentioned, your bike does not have compression release and can account for some of the delay. You can have them put in as a mod. Also check everything is tight, started contact, cables, grounds, etc-then go with the strongest battery you can find since it will be working against the compression without benefit of CR.

Thanks everyone, I just wanted to know if this was normal for the 03 chopper. Sounds like it is pretty common especially without the CR feature. Thanks again!
