Big Dog... no mo'

OK, so I finally bit the bullet and purchased a new bike!

My '05 Chopper has just over 86,000 miles on it, and I've been debating whether or not to throw some money into it (to the tune of a few grand) to upgrade the motor to be all S&S stuff and fix the various other issues, or just get a new bike.

Lo and behold, the local Arlen Ness dealer here, where I bought my Big Dog, had a Proper Chopper for sale. It was a consignment sale, and it just appeared too good to pass up. It's a 2006 Proper Chopper 300 RS chopper with only 840 miles on it!!! I also got it for 16 grand ($17,500 out the door).

Here's a photo of it with my faithful dog Max:

It's got Harley controls, 113 S&S motor, 300 mm rear tire, and hydraulic clutch... to name just a few of the features.

Will need to get used to the handling (or lack there of) of the huge rear tire, but hopefully that will sink in soon.

Will now be selling my Big Dog Chopper, once I get the leaks repaired to make it more presentable. Don't expect to get much, but I only owe a couple grand on it, so hopefully I'll make at least a few bucks on it.

Going to miss the Big Dog, but it just seems like it's time to move on.

This forum has been a TREMENDOUS help for me in the past, and I'm going to miss not only the ol' bike, but also the ability to grab such great information from all you guys about my bike. Thank you all for the support I've gotten in the past!

Will continue to keep an eye on member's posts, and hopefully can continue to contribute to this forum.

Ride safe!

I have to be honest, I feel the proper chopper is a step back in engineering and reliability. Good looking bike, hope it proves me wrong.

Thanks guys! Going to miss the ol' Dog, but just seems a good time to move on.

To address some of the previous responses...

Hopefully the Proper Chopper will prove to be reliable, but like anything mechanical, I know there's no gaurantee. Time... and miles... will tell.

Yes, my avatar is of my old bike, and yes, the new one is similar in appearance. As one person stated, it's like BigDog's cousin. There are some major differences, like the 300 rear tire, single downtube, and spoked wheels, but that aside, it's overall looks are very similar. In fact, a couple people at work thought I had just repainted my old bike!

I'll certainly stay tuned to this site. Always interesting to see what people are experiencing with their Dogs, and hopefully I can chime in at times and offer some information and/or feedback.

Ride safe everyone!

You put over 86,000 miles on the dog. I'm sure you have a little insight and knowledge on the bigdogs. Stick around I'm sure we could use your help. :2thumbs:
