Put a 240mm in place of a 250mm tire

Hey Guys,
I went and put a (AVON) 240mm/40VR/18 on my 03 chopper instead of the 250mm. Rode the bike home, and what a big difference in how the bike handles. Totally worth going smaller. I don't really see a change in looks, but it really seems to handle quicker. Plus, I have 1" of clearance for the belt, away from the tire.

I could see where the smaller tire would help in handeling but what happened with going to a Dunlop?

Actually,
Dunlop 240mm wouldn't fit on the 8.5" rim. The Dunlop 250mm was too wide. My belt was already too close to the tire. Thought about then trying Metzler, but couldn't get a sold answer on the size rim the 240mm would fit on.

I do have to say that the new Avon has more tread depth then the 250mm I put on two years ago. Not sure why, but it was nice to see. Really wanted to go with the Dunlop this time, but I was done with the tire rubbing on the belt crap. We'll see if this tire is any better in the long run, but so far the quicker handling is a plus for me.

I'm running a Metz 240 on my scooter, No rubbing on the belt at all, It doesn't look any different then the Avon 250 as far as width goes

Hey top1371,
Nice looking tire. My goal was to get more clearance between my belt and tire. The Avon 250 gave me about 1/8". What I didn't like was, if the belt was set to the correct tension listed in the shop manual, it would sometimes rub on the tire while riding. With the AVON 240mm I've got plenty of room(1"), plus the smaller tire made the bike easier to handle.

Slick dog, I'll post a photo later showing the extra tread on the tire. Plus showing that its really not that much smaller when you look at it from the back.

Here is a shot from the back, and a closeup of the tread.

I dont remember the tread being this deep on the last one I put on.

Maybe its just from not seeing a new tire in a while.
