EHC Elimination

THE new BDM module is a direct plug in, though on some you will have to change the battery tray (comes with full kit). Also unless something changed you will loose the turn signals self-canceling features as well as the flasher feature. It is new and supposed to be improved greatly, however it is just now geting out there and time will tell if it is a good fix or another PITA.

THe WP is proven by many on here, however it is not a direct plug in and will take some time, some patence and a little skill to change out. From the vat majority of people that have used them that have commented on here, they seem to hold well and few if any problems.

For me, still have the orginal EHC, however I have a new BDM coming in and will give it a try to see how it holds up. Would rather keep my original wiring harness and not have to get into criming, soldering etc. If by chance it does not hold up, then WP will be ordered next.

Will say though I am on my third EHC (the first was changed back in the day under the TSP-there was no problems with it), the second I broke a pin for the oil pressure light and replaced it with a new one, the third got shorted out due to chaffed power leads coming into it, did not want to buy a very expense new one to replace at the time so put the second one with the broke pin back on and it still holding up. That one and thus the current has an estimate 12k on it and will go for spare in case the newest Direct Plug In from BDM screws up.

Hope this helps. Oh the new one from BDM as a complete kit (battery tray, etc) cost me just short of $700, it may be cheaper if you order direct from BDM but I went thorugh my local dealer for I still like to support the local if possible, even if it will cost me a few extra dollars.

Good luck

I did mean to add when I e-mailed a Rep at BDM I was advised that there is no loss of functionalty. Either it has been updated or he was incorrect. In any case, with my limited skill set with motorcycles I like the plug and play idea. My EHC is still working fine, 2006, but I would have an option all ready to go. Just like in Sturgis this year, my clutch cable broke. When I spoke to a Rep at Bernett I was advised it is not a matter of if it is when because of the transmission config. In any case, thanks again for the info.

I am not sure either on the loss of function. I have seen conflicting information on that, however I did speak with Bob Lockwood directly on the phone at BDM and he told me the flaser function would not work nor would the self canceling for the turn signals. May he did not have the full information or something was changed with the newest batches. I will find out for sure near the end of September when I am home and change it out.

Moespeed has done some of the changes and maybe a few others that could add some additional information in regards to what is correct on those unclear features.

Mine is for the 2005 Mastif and P/N ending in 103. That all said I do not have it yet and it has been over a month since I spoke to BD and at that time they were being made up. I called my BD Dealer and had them order me one and they fw me an email fro BDP saying it would be shipped today.

We will see, however if someone that has put one on recently can confirm if the self canceling feature as well as flasher function as the 05 and later models did or did not, it would be most appreciated.

BDM Harness

I guess it does not make any difference on the loss of function--never used 4-ways and can turn my signals off easy enough. I did make a call and ordered the BDM wire and morre cncerned about receiving it. Wait and see. Thanks again for all you insight. Al

As for the Wire-Plus install, most that have never done one will tell you it is difficult, while those out there that have done the install will tell you it is easy, but it is time consuming. Most will also tell you that they are glad they did it themselves because if a problem pops up in the future, they now understand how the bike is wired.

I have found, that talking to MANY customers that I have sold the Wire-Plus to, it basically comes down to this...

...If you can change your oil, can understand basic instructions with many pictures, then you can do the wire-plus install. The BDM kit is just as technical, just doesn't take as much time to install.

The Wire-Plus does not require you to remove the tank or battery box.
The Wire-Plus now, since updates, needs no soldering to install.
The Wire-Plus does retain all BDM factory features that came on the bike.

...and with my 10% off to forum members, the Wire-Plus kit is cheaper than the BDM.

After all of the problems over the years with the ehc, I could not see myself giving BD another chance with their new wiring make over. I went with Jake and his wireplus and I could not he happier. It took me 9-1/2 hours start to finish 3K miles ago. Jake will give you 63 full color pages of instructions that show the before and after location of every single wire. If hundreds of members can do it so can you. The hardest part is cutting the first wire. After that it is all down hill. Good Luck!

Where can i get the 63 pages of pictures and instructions at? I bought my wire plus from Jake and only got 5 sheets of paper of instructions with only 4 black and white pictures. Not trying to call you out, Jake, but I asked for some support on an email and got nothing back.

I've been struggling with the Harley shop here since they are the only shop where I live and even them are struggling with the instructions.

I would try calling Jake or pm him here...I know when I am busy working...sometimes its a week or so before I get a chance to check my e mails...usually a call or text is the best way...for me anyways...

I have a saved copy of the email in my out box with all the attachments from the day you bought the kit, and a email saying the dealer cant read english and you needed spanish instructions. I had resent them the other day as well.

What is the difference between the BDM and Wire Plus wire harness to eliminate the EHC?
I used a Wire Plus set up in my 04 Big Dog Choppers and now have them in a box in my shop. Buy the upgrade from Dead One Customs. I installed one in both my bikes and have never had another issue with the system.

Ancient post. Wire plus was a disaster. 1000% worse than the EHC.

RIP, DOC, or axel’s are great solutions.
