Sturgis trip

I was seriously thinking about writting an article about the drawbacks of riding to Sturgis (1000 miles) with a group of nine. Everything stupid that could go wrong did. We had over twenty unscheduled stops. Most were from three bikes that had not been serviced or inspected.
We had unscheduled stops like: Running out of gas after we had recently stopped (less than fifty miles) for gas (riding thought he had enough to make it to the next stop), riders helmet blowing off at 75 mph, aircleaner falling off, horn cover falling off, gas tank vibrating loose, drive chain having over 4" of play, shifter falling off (we didn't find that one), finder coming loose, 2qts low on engine oil, bald rear tire, travel bags not secured, gas line vapor locks and on and on. One section it took over thirteen hours to travel 500 miles (speed limit was 75 mph for the most).:bang::bang:
Unfortunitely, I wasn't able to make it to Deadwood on Tuesday, the dyno guy fried my power commander on my H-d and it took all day to get it repaired. By the way 92 hp and almost 102 lbs of torgue on a stage II (103) ultra classic.
The moral of the story is: Never travel with eight other guys on a long trip and expect any type of orginization. I go to Sturgis every year, never again with nine.

:Understands the frustration, and agrees that is why I about 98% of the time ride by my lonesome. Then I can go as fast as I want to or as slow as I want to and not listen to a bunch of whining.

WE usually travel with 5-11 different bikes all of the same group... we never have issues (knock on wood) but all of us are anal about service and prep. Just looks like you need to find better travel companions... If you don't stay on people however lolly gagging around at stops can hurt your time. One person needs to be the ride capt. sorta, and just keep on people.

Wow, that would have been such a shitty trip! Are these guys experienced riders????

Six were really experienced riders, two some experience riders and one with three weeks experience. The rooky wasn't a problem just greatful. The two with some experience (a couple of years of riding) were the issue.
Every year we rotate the trip responsibility. Next year it's my turn and I'm retired military. However, I think I'm only going with the original four or solo. Solo riding is my choice.
by the way, all nine bikes were H-d's.

I only ride with one HD and he's a Mad Dog :roll::cheers::roll:

Sounds like peeps did not properly service before the ride...There is no way I would ride 1000 miles without going through the whole bike and verifying everything is up to snuff.
