Oils and filter

I'm sure this is beaten to death, so I'll just jump right in. Does the 107 motor use any patricular year EVO oil filter? Also can the tranny and primary case use the same as Harley (perfomance plus formula or something like that)?

tranny you would be better off with something on the line of Redline heavy shockproof. i think rated something like 75/250. a lot go with Amsoil.

Nope... If you can swing it just get the K & P from Don and be done with it.

I switched from all Redline to all Amsoil (incl filter) last year at my 5K service.

Both are great oils, but Amsoil was easier to obtain for me and now my bike uses NO oil in between service internals.
(it used to go through about a quart of Redline every 1,000 miles or so for some reason..?? :loony:)

Anyway, that's my :zz2cents: on the subject...

I use Harley fluids in the transmission and primary. I use Brad Penn oil. It's always best to use an Evo filter but you can also use a twin cam filter if you choose.... but you can't use a twin cam filter on an Evo.

AMS 20W 50 in the motor
Spectro 75W 140 (Baker suggested) in Trans
20W 50 weight oil for the primary - (Don't use synthetic brand, can cause clutch slippage)

In my 107, I somtimes use the Harley Chrome Oil Filter (#77A) about 10 bucks at Harley dealers. Most of the time, I use K&N chrome filters (#KN-170C) about 15 bucks. What is nice about the K&N it has a 17mm nut on it, makes taking it off real easy.

Thanks everyone. I've got an Amsoil dealer close by. Not sure wher to find Redline heavy shockproof.

I personally use AMSOIL in both our bikes and have never had an issue, Even in 100º temps stop and go traffic. 20-50 in the crank and primary and 75-140 in the tranny.

Not the same product. I don't know any of the technical specs to compare but I can tell you K&P's filter looks way better without than that nasty looking nipple hanging of the end. Nipples are good but not in this application IMHO :D

Comparisons have been made in the past and although it appears you have a good filter it is not of the same quality as the K&P.
There is only 1 other filter that comes close to K&P quality and it sells for $200.
K&P has been the popular choice for most on this forum and this is due to the many threads that have researched this topic in great depth.
These are the 3 finishes I stock.
Others can be ordered.

Well I know The NUT on the end of the filter makes it very easy to take off Lets not tell K&N filter about it loking bad They put one on there filters too! This will also save you from nicking your fiter up later trying to take it off? 200% more filter area Stainless filter catches down to 35 microns.By no means am I trying to knock the K&P filter I'm just trying to give you another choice I just happen to come across the one in Dennis Kirk catolog I thought I buy it and I was impressed when I got it with the quality. Thanks BUSTER:flag:
