Shipping Your Scoot To A Rally & Back

Hey everyone. Has anyone here ever had their motorcycle shipped to a rally and back home. I'd like to hear a few details. Where you had it picked up and shipped to, cost, experience with it, etc. I'd also like to know if there is any interest in a service like this and what would it be worth to you for this kind of service. Basically red carpet treatment of your motorcycle and your gear delivered at the start of a rally and departing at the end to be delivered back to the point of pick-up. I'm trying to do a little math here to see if this is a feasible venture I may want to get into. Thanks in advance for your comments. "Good or Bad"

I am interested in just such a service from WA to Daytona and return, if the math works out. I figure free if we ea drive your rig 50/50:D

This is actually a great idea and several on the site have tried to make this idea work and that is the last we hear about it.

Why don't we just hire Paul to haul our scoots to a major rally. He's got that K- whopper...:D

KnotSo/Brew...Yeah guys I've been looking at some trailers lately. I was going to get just a 7x14 but I've seen some decent prices in some larger trailers I could pull with the KW. I've been approached here recently about hauling a few up to Sturgis when a few found out I was going up in the KW anyway. Right now between friends it wouldn't be a problem with insurance and such. But if I went foward with this on basically a part time basis going to the bigger rally's I dont know if it'd be feasible to get my authority and pay for the big cargo insurance and liability.

Paul, there is a local company in springdale doing that sort of thing. they advertise about a 53 foot trailer picking up bikes going to the big rallys. If you want to do some snooping before you pull the triger I would be happy to get there info to you. That way you could ask the questions to someone who is doing it already:up:

I did for the first time this year to AZ Bike Week.
Round trip (picked up at my house and returned to my house), Chicago to Phoenix, for $450...about what I'd have spent renting a 'stock' Harley for 3 days.
And this time I had my own bike, which made the experience SO MUCH better!:whoop::cheers:

This shipper is AWESOME - I highly recommend them!:2thumbs:
They have a large semi-trailer (w/upper & lower level) equipped with Condor wheel chocks, soft-tie-downs, and were very careful with the bikes.

Here's their website (ask for Dan Doty):

A couple years ago I hooked up with a group of firefighters out of DC, who came down for Daytona and used the Auto-Train. Am Track runs north & south on the east coast. I don't know if it runs east & west, but might be worth looking into.

We are starting our planning now for Sturgis next year 2012, my Brother In Law is going to do the same thing with his truck and a 40 foot. Charging $300 a bike from Ohio to Sturgis and back. He is just looking for enough to pay for their trip out there and help others out at the same time.

450 round trip that's very reasonable if Paul's not doing it by Panama city next spring I will be calling them!

We had a custom shop here in our town (during the wide tire chopper glory days). They unfortunately are no longer in business for the obvious reason (the economy). Anyway they had a big trailer and diesel pickup and did it to Daytona from UT for a couple of years hauling their show bikes and other peoples rides. I think it was always a struggle for them. People would be all gungho and say they planned to go and then back out (it gets to be a lot of cash by the time you pay to transport the bike, pay for your airline tickets, hotel, food, etc which only the more 'well-off' can do and you really only save the time to ride there).

We also camped next to a couple of big rigs in Sturgis at Hog Heaven for a few years who hauled their's and others' bikes up and back and the rig owner used his truck to camp/live in. I don't know whether he made money or just helped pay for his trip.

Another big rig owner at Hog Heaven, just hauled his bike along with regular freight loads coming and going so I think his trip was pretty much paid for (cept for the down time).

I would think that a venture like this (being seasonal) would be tough unless tied in with a regular year-round freight business. But best of luck if you pursue the venture.

Pretty cheap just renting a 5x8 Uhaul trailer and hauling it out yourself. $50 a day, just get one for the day out and the day back.

You got to consider where some of us are coming from, plus gas expense... Would be cheaper to have a transport company do it then...

Paul, It just hit me and I think I have the "Perfect" business model for your transport business!

Here is what you do! With each guy's bike delivered to the rally, you ALSO deliver a Hot Free-spirited bikini clad hard body for him to be seen with at the rally! There is absolutely NOTHING better than going to a rally with a Hot Chick!

With these kind of "Extras" your business will Expode!:2thumbs:

Haha well then transporting the bike would be the cheap part I have a feeling. I would imagine the girl would be $1000+ a day easy. Besides I think there's a law possibly being broken. Something called a Mann Act.:roll::roll:
