Anybody got an 03 Chop?

Can anyone tell me if an 03 chop uses standard HD handlebar controls and wiring? I know 04+ is proprietary with pegs, etc

Yep standard HD switches, handle bars, and even the foot pegs are standard mounts. I am not 100% sure about the wiring though because they still use an EHC but I don't believe it steps down the voltage like the newer ones do.

Lambo, the 03 had everything HD including the wiring with the Thunderheart EHC. The wiring is the same except that BD changed the ends to their own color scheme. The footpegs are also made by thunderheart and I think the bars are Carlini's

Lambo, if your looking to buy one ensure you find out if the frame is an RT. They were all recalled for broken back bones so would want to ensure this one was done. No issues with the Daytec.

I'm re-wiring my entire bike and going standard size bars/controls/etc.

It's going to be all customs - maybe direct wire. Been on the horn with Thunder Heart to see if I could do a plug and play... but can't.

Found a NEW 03 chopper wiring harness on ebay for $25... think I'll bag it and then I could do a standard Thunder Heart.. More on this project later..

(I don't have the patience Gas has to explain, take photos and post... lol)

Gas - FWIW - when doing serious work on the cars and remove stuff I lay it out on the ground in and take a digital pix so I can remember how it goes back together... Very helpful after a few beers. Last month changed the wires and installed a cold air ram intake... but had to remove about 10 things just to pull the wires...the pix saved my ass.

Lambo use the Thunderheart microharness. I'm in the process of changing my Thunderheart EHC to the Micro. I've been told it's an easy wire and you'll never have a problem with it. You are right about the bars and controls. You need to h=get regular HD bars and control. No more BD stuff, what a relief!!!:)

Right now my biggest problem is finding a set of standard 1" bars that are identical to the BDM in terms of rise and pullback. My BD bars fit me like a glove and bars aren't something you can buy from a catalog... May wait till Daytona check out some Ness stuff.

Spoke to 2 respected custom builders and both say stay away from internal cable bars if you like to ride and that they are more for bar hoppers. Seems the cables are made way thinner to pack everything in inside the bars...

It's never easy.....:)

Thanks Knot - Just try working on it with a manual half in english/half in italian - and the english part was written by a chineese guy - shit u not -
