Passenger Pegs don't stay stowed

Anyone got a suggestion besides putting the clevis in a press and closing the gap to keep the Passenger Pegs stowed in the up position when not used?
I don't want to over TQ the bolt and have the included plastic washers installed but they wont stay stowed.
Thanks

Sounds a lot like it could be possible that the plastic washers have worn to the point of being too loose to keep the pegs in the stored positions anymore. Maybe?

I have the same problem with one of my passenger pegs. On the right side it just won't stay up but no issue on the left side. I am thinking of trying to find another thin washer or something. Also, don't over torque the bolt. It is a shouldered bolt that will only go so far. Over torque it and it might break off, leaving the threaded portion inside and difficult to remove. Yeah I know this...from experience!

I had the same problem, I wraped the plastic washer with duct tape on both sides, trimed off excess. Re torqued bolt and no problems after that & this is on a Ridgeback.

i took mine about 1/16 of a turn more and that was enough. that shouldn't be too much for the bolt to take.

HD has a spring washer that should fit in place of the plastic. Should take care of the problem.

After the tighting thing quit working I bought some stainless steel shim washers .010" or ? from McMaster Carr and placed some inside (I think under the plastic washer) to take up the gap for a tighter fit.

Look for a plastic vinyl tube or plastic pipe the same ID & OD of the plastic spacer and cut off a piece a bit thicker. Go to the hardware store and look around and get inventive!

When I do that I usually hear a Snapping sound which then leaves me with a sinking feeling in my stomach.
Mine are always doing that as well, but since I know no one is back there sitting on a the fender I try not to let is bother me. ( Could be your guardian angel riding back there, using the pegs)

Maybe go to a rubber washer a little bit thicker.

I like my back pegs down on long runs. I can put my feet on them and change positions...almost like riding a crotch rocket for a few minutes at a time. I'm a fat guy and it works for me, so it'll prolly work for you skinny guys :p

I RARELY ride 2-up.

I have mine tightened down. It's not like you tighten enough to break the bolt..just make them as snug as you need them, and don't over do it.

Just go to your local hardware store...they sell plastic shim washers. You can get them in black or white. Add them to your existing washers, make em tight and no problem. Did this on my Ridgeback and never had any problems.

I have found the shoulder bolt wears and causes this.
I had one that would fall all the time. Even with the original washers, once I replaced the should bolt it stays up great even without having to torque the bolt tight.
I think they are a 5/16th shoulder, 1/4 in thread and 3/4 in long...
Give it a try..

I do exactly the same thing, feels good to change positions.

Like others have said, just find a thicker plastic washer and torque to spec., you should be fine. :2thumbs:
