compression release sticking

Does anyone know if it will hurt anything to spray some penetrating oil on a sticking compression release?

I'm going to Laughlin next week and I have one sticking. It works if I push it a couple times before starting. I have new ones on the way but wont get them in before the trip. I would like to avoid having it grenade like others have reported.

Thanks

I had my read CR starting to stick. I did replace with a new one. However I did put some oil in the old one to see what it would do and it did loosen up. Seemed to have more carbon build up than the front just by looking at the cover over it as compaired to the front release. The front release cover is fairly clean while the rear cover had a brown/burn apperance on the interior. As far as will it gernade I don't know what ya got.

How many miles on it?

Some other Beuller post up what ya know!!

Hi, I've got almost 19k on it if I push it 3 time before I start it operates
I'm guessing I should buy the tool and take a spark plug with me just in case

If ya take a spark plug its a 14mm not a 12mm like we have in the engine. The comp release has approx 3/4" of thread. Antiseze and very little troque just like the spark plugs.

Yes you can, it is fine.
Pull the rubber boot off and spray it with some Kroil penetrating oil or your choice. Carbon does build up on them making them stick. I have done this in the past.
Let it soak in and press them down to help loosing it up.

Ditto -- pulled and cleaned mine at 20K with oil and solvent. Back was worse than front.
