Fluid levels?

Servicing my 04 Chopper for the first time since I purchased it and have a few questions.

The oil tank does not have a dip stick so how do I know how much oil to put in the tank?

Checking the trans fluid, stand the bike up straight and let the dip stick sit on the threads or screw it in?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Measure tha filler tube then you can use that measurement to dip a screwdriver down to see where you hit the correct level

No no no!! Only to the BOTTOM of the filler tube.
Think about it this way, your oil tank is a house and the filler tube is a chimney, you don't want any oil in the chimney, just fill the house to the top

Ps. Unless the 04's are different from the 05 this is correct

I just spoke with the local BD dealer and they are saying to only fill it to about 2 inches from of the tank (leaving room for heat expansion).

When in doubt, change the oil, put 3 quarts in it, run the engine, shut it off, and look at the level. It's full.

Fill oil tank until oil hits the bottom of the filler tube.

Screw the tranny cap in.

Yes, motor oil should be visible at the bottom of the fill tube but not much more than 1/4" or so up. Any more than that may cause oil to blow out your breather vent. Make sure the bike is on level ground and on it's side stand.

Transmission should be checked with the bike upright and on level ground. Place dipstick into fill hole but do not thread it in. Just place it into hole and make sure the oil is up to the the upper line.

After all tha threads i went through figuring out fluid levels myself, i never read anything about just placing cap on top to check tha tranny and not screwing it in.
Not saying that's wrong just you never stop learning new info....and..
i need to check my transmission fluid .

an easy way to see would buy an oil cap with the temp gage on it. it also has a small dip stick attached . the cap for a dyna fits and costs 20 bucks. i had a problem with my BD cap ( bung ) comming off thats why i changed mine and knowing the temp is a big plus for me
