:rolleyes:We are not screwed until the government takes over BDM AND that will not happen! I'll start a collection and find investors before our broke $$s government tries to step in:bang: Otherwise, like any other bike, buy what you want, learn all about it, and enjoy the adventure of fixing, upgrading, blah blah blah:rant::rant:

If I can restore a 1968 BSA chopper that was under 10 feet of Katrina sewage water for 3 weeks and it ends up in a magazine, why are you worried. Trust me, parts from over 40 years ago don't come easy or have to be made. Don't worry be happy. Believe in yourself, this site, and you can do anything. I am not sure what the heck I am talking about since this thread is causing me to go :loony::loony:

Oops, I forgot the most important part. Go out and ride your bike.

Why dont Sheldon come out and tell us all on his website?...What? the customers are not worthy? I respect Strokers for letting us know about the "Storm" before it hits...I fault Sheldon for playing with his employees lives and jerking us all around...It's real simple, post something up on BDM website and let us know the deal! Hell, if he meant well, he would have someone on this site to keep us informed... He might have the skills to build the bikes, but No BALLS to go down with his own ship!

I think a lot of this depends on how much debt BDM has if any. If none, I can see where they are just suspending production of new motorcycles for now with the exception of parts. Keep a bare bones crew around to fulfill the parts need only. In other words, BDM isn't shutting the doors but they aren't going to be producing any more bikes until they have enough orders. If they don't have a lot of debt just keeping a parts and support operation going might allow them to tread water and they can weather the storm.

The insolvent/bankrupt distinction was importantly addressed earlier in this thread.

There are so many 09s, 10s and 11s out there rotting on dealer floors. How can you justify building any more bikes right now or paying people to sit there and do nothing.

Going Overboard? If it wasnt for Strokers, we would have been hit with a "Sucker Punch"....all we want is the truth....And the truth starts with the Owner/President...My riding Buddy is 61 yrs old and he has a K9...The bike is his "existence" for living....He polish the bike everyday...He love BDM to death...Well, I had to break his heart with this information yesterday...He Cried! Not for his situation, but the workers who has to find a job. Who's going overboard? Me or BDM? I wish BDM would come out and set the record straight...whether good or bad...We can handle the truth...

What sucker punch? How has any of this news really affected you?

I'm sure BDM will make an announcement when they are ready... but what YOU think YOU deserve is probably low on the priority list of a company that has been struggling for a few years now.

And it's mentalities like the one you are displaying that have created problems all over this country, this self importance. You are a customer, not an investor, share holder nor employee. So, chill out on your ignoramus comments about people you don't know and topics you know even less about.

And maybe you should research what it means to go down with a ship because my initial impressions of you, from your statement "He might have the skills to build the bikes, but No BALLS to go down with his own ship!" are extremely poor... and I'll leave it at that as one of the rules here are no personal attacks.

Chill out, have fun speculating and leave the attacks at the door.

Im not sure how theey are going to anything when all of their inventory is being liquidated...click on the link...there is an excel spreadsheet of all the parts that are up for auction.

Big Dog Motorcycle Liquidation
I guess you missed this...

"Over the past several years, Big Dog Motorcycles has accrued a significant amount of parts and components the company no longer incorporates in motorcycle designs. We have elected to move these overstocked parts, used mainly on production motorcycles from 1999-2005, through Liquid Asset Partners, a reputable parts liquidator who has assisted other manufacturers in similar efforts. These parts were kept on hand only for warranty work and service repairs."

And just so you know, this auction is really old.

I wish BDM would come out and set the record straight.
Mike Simmons, the President of BDM did make a statement:
But the popular custom motorcycle blog Cyril Huze wrote of a much darker picture for the small independent motorcycle company on Monday claiming they had called different dealerships carrying the line of bikes to tell them ‘that they are done.’

Big Dog’s President Mike Simmons claims that’s not the case.

We’re still open just like we were last week,” Simmons told the Wichita Business Journal.

Big Dog cuts workforce
The Wichita Eagle (BY DAN VOORHIS)
Posted: 04/05/2011 12:00 AM

Big Dog Motorcycles laid off more of its already shrunken workforce last week, saying demand for its high-end custom motorcycles hasn't improved.

The company cut 10 production workers and now employs 22. It hasn't made any new motorcycles since last year, company president Mike Simmons said Monday.

At the height of its popularity in 2005, the company built more than 5,000 bikes a year and had more than 300 workers. Among its biggest customers were building contractors, the company said at the time.

Simmons deferred any comment about the company's future to owner Sheldon Coleman Jr., who couldn't be reached Monday.

Coleman said in 2009 that he had hired an investment bank to explore the sale, merger or recapitalization of the company.

Simmons said the company now fills orders only for parts and other supplies.

He said the company gets a few orders now and then but isn't interested in reviving production until there are hundreds of orders.

When that will happen, he said, "is anybody's guess."

Simmons said the great majority of the company's motorcycles are sitting in showrooms of about 70 Big Dog dealers.

"The issue is both demand and the ability to get financing," he said.

Several dealers, contacted Monday, said they hadn't heard any news about the future of the company.

Jim Stoddard of California Boss Hoss Motor Sports in Harbor City, Calif., said he has heard plenty of rumors about the company. He said he talked to the company a week ago and nothing was said about closing down.

"I'm rooting for these guys to survive," he said. "They are about the only one left, and they've always been the best. They explained that the rumors vastly misrepresent what's going on."

But the financial strain at the company is taking its toll.

A dealer, who asked not to be named, said he ended his relationship with Big Dog last week because the company started making less expensive motorcycles and refused to buy back the more expensive ones still in his showroom.

Jeff Chapman of Victory Big Dog of Mesa, Ariz., said interest in the bikes is there, but banks won't finance the purchases.

Stoddard, the California dealer, said many of his customers are wealthy enough to pay cash but still won't buy the bikes. There has been a psychological barrier since the recession, he said.

But, he said, things might finally be changing.

"In the last 45 days, I've sold more product than in the last six months," he said.

I was looking at the liquidation website...said the auction will be held at BDM on Friday, June 27th....June 27th is a Monday. So either they have the day or month wrong on there.

funny reading the internet post on the subject. Some say the the "FAD" of the overpriced fat tire impractical chopper is dead and replaced with the in chopped down version of the more practical priced bobbers is in which led to the downfall of our bikes. obviously "they" have never rode a big dog. What a feeling of freedom and control with this bike. yeah its had it's problems just like any bike out there but to me there is nothing like it getting out out on the twisting roads and leaning the bike into turns. If you bought your bike because it was a "fad" you ride for the wrong reason anyway. How about you bought your bike because it was badass and fun!
