Wicked rattle/vibration noise at 3300+ rpm?

It's a very tinny sound like license plate rattling or pipe heat shield. Super annoying that I can't find it. It sounds like its coming from my front fender but it could be anywhere in front. I've tapped on the entire front end with the rubber hammer handle and everything seems tight. Its not the headlight, i can hold onto that while i'm driving and its not vibrating. Any ideas?

could very well BE the heat shields. what kind of pipes do you have??? and how are the shields attached??? clamps can come loose or strip and screws can loosen up from the heat.

and then again, check the vent tube in the gas fill. it has caused several people major headaches in the past. remove the gas cap and reach down in the fill and see if the vent pipe is firmly attached.

mine was doing the same thing and it was my front brakes. I cant rememeber exactly what was loose but you may want to check them.

Thanks guys,
I'm going to find out what it is today if it comes down to removing 1, then driving around the block, removing another until it goes away.

Dunno about the '03, but the '00 PM 4 piston caliper pad setup would chatter like I never heard 'till the Lyndall pads got put on... even then still was some.

Wouldn't be the dog tags on that chain around your neck would it? ...zip the leather up higher. :)

I may have found it! haven't confirmed though but on bottom of the lower triple clamp is a little metal plate that hides a cavity with the turn signal wires. I can hit that and pretty lightly with the hammer and it contacts another metal part. I'm going to head to home depot without this part see if it goes away. crossing my fingers.

As far as the brake It could be that but i'm hoping not, I actually just replaced, my front rotor, and pads (with lyndal's) and everything seems pretty solid down there, I hope its not brake related I'm pretty certain there is nothing more I can do there. and the sound was there before I changed the rotor and pads, and hasn't seemed to change at all.

Double check your top engine mount as well. If that comes loose it can cause all kinds of crap to start falling off.

I had that kind of noise, it ended up being from gas tank. I could push up on back of tank or reach under the front and pull up and make noise go away. dealer cut down rubber mounts under tank and said that would fix - it didn't. I took rubber heater hose and cut down side glued two pieces together and put under tank out of sight over top bar where tank sits and that worked. every now and then it vibrates out and I have to reinstall so if this is your problem may want to put a little glue on under side.

Vent Tube I'm guessing too. Mine wound rattle at 3000 rpm or so. Didn't take mine out just took a long screwdriver and pushed it down and out of the way. No more rattle. "for now"
