NECK BEARING ADJUSTMENT

I put the bike up on a jack and there seems to be some play in the neck bearings. The front end doesn't move a lot but enough that it makes a clunk if you grab the forks and pull up and down. Is there a way to take the extra play out or is it time for new bearings? Looked in the "how to" section but didn't find anything that answered my question.

Sandy, if I have to come back over to the island and do this for you it's going to cost you!!!! :D I'll want lunch at (shit can't remember the name). ha ha

On the lift slowly turn your front tire/wheel to the left or right and check for "fall". It should flop over after about 2 to 3 inches if I remember right. If it does it sooner then you need to tighten up the neck. At the back of the lower race you will see an adjuster/locknut. Loosen this and then check the fall rate and adjust the top center nut till you get the fall rate to where you like it then tighten up the locknut. Remember that will will fall sooner to the brake side due to the additional weigh on the side.

Aloha,
Ray

Thanks Ray, I'll give it a go in the morning. If you get here will hit up Big Kahuna's for a pig sandwich!

Damn dude, that was the place I was thinking. Just down from the airport!!!!! :D

I miss spoke though, the adjustment on the neck is from the bottom. :2thumbs:

There are two hex screws - one the top and the other on the bottom of the trip tree itself (in-set and accessed from the back) that must be loosened before making any adjustments I think they are both 5/16- DO NOT forget to tighten once finished :)
Good luck

Thanks for the help. When I went to check the adjustment I found that the set screw was loose and the bolt at the bottom took almost a complete turn to remove the excess slop. Fall rate seems right and no more "clunking" noise.
