Where is primary drain plug ?

I have an 06 Pit Bull.........don't have a lift and can not find the drain for the primary. Ive seen pics on here but hard to tell exactly where it is. Anyone got a better pic? By the kick stand, right?

Yes, it's on the bottom back of the primary. You should see an allen head plug back there. May have to get on the ground and take a look or use a mirror.

Kinda near the kickstand. It's under the clutch plate area of the primary. You'll need a hex wrench to remove it 3/16 I think. After you drain it I'd take the primary off and and clean out all the old oil and build up that may be present in there.

don't forget to check to see if you have a primary breather plug on the back side of the primary. if you have one, it will be roughly center of the primary just below the top edge on the back (i think it is 7/16 hex head). don't remember if the '06 had them or not. be careful with it, it breaks easily. just remove it, wash it with solvent/brake cleaner, and re-install it (just snug it in, maybe 10 inch/lbs). kind of a pia but needs to be done.

HMMMM! Glad you mentioned that.......haven't heard that one before. Thanks alot guys. Does it drain pretty much all of it? In other words, is it safe to simply put in a whole quart of new fluid or should I add 3/4 and check and add if needed?

My point was to remove the primary cover and clean it out with break clean. You can then inspect for debris and check your chain tension.

If you do not remove the primary cover then yes the majority of fluid will drain and the amount left in there is negligible.(Assuming the bike is level of course) Just add 32 oz. You more than likely need a new inspection cover gasket. Be careful when reinstalling the inspection cover. Install the bolts with even pressure as the ears of the cover may break off. Common problem....

it might be easier to get some gasket material from the parts house and make your own gasket. not hard to do.

the earlier dogs vented the primary through a relief in the inspection plate.(i think)
