Tool List

Yeah got that thanks.
"Our BDM tool kit was developed to handle most of your service needs. It comes complete with 5 common size wrenches, adjustable wrench, locking pliers, flashlight, tire gauge, Allen wrenches, screwdriver, and much more. This convenient, carry-along tool kit weighs 3.5 lbs and fits perfectly in our leather tool rolls.."

I was hoping for a little more specifics...I'm a dumb dumb when it comes to wrenching but figure their kit would have all the basics I would need for "most of my service needs".

I guess what I am asking is what standard sizes should I have for open end/allen wrenches, sockets etc... A basic set of tools for the dog :D

I could peruse the service manual and come up with a list but was hoping when of you veterans could spout off what I should have....

thanks

If your talking about a tool selection for your garage here's my list. If your talking road tool roll then that one is adequate.

1) A good set of Hex wrenches do not skimp here.
2) A set of 3/8 drive hex wrenches I picked mine up at sears. I wish I would have picked up a set with the 2-3" length on the hex part.
3) A good set of screw drivers-I use snap-on
4) A set of 3/8 drive sockets-I use impact sockets instead of 12 sided.
5) A set of 1/2 drive sockets. Again impact sockets. Don't forget extentions for both drive sets.
6) Torque wrenches- Ft-lbs and in-lbs. I use the in-pounds more and picked up the "Gear Wrench".
7) A good motorcycle jack. Sears aluminum is OK but there are better ones out there. Harley has a very good one but pricey. Or a table lift for the whole bike.
8) A good set of combination wrenches. 3/8"-1-1/8" some of these you'll need two of EX: 3/8 and 7/16
9) Compressor - I use a 20 gallon tank 3.0 hp Blackmax by Sanborn. I would not get the oil less compressor toooo noisey.
10) A set of four tires irons- Harbor Freight has 24" very reasonable. You'll need four.

That should break your bank for now :):):up:
Happy wrenching......

Sears and some other companies provide kits with a good majority of these sockets, wrenches etc less expensive than buying everything seperate.

Thanks Erldawg. Not that I would ever do any roadside repair just use the mobile phone :D but if i were to carry some tools on a extended trip what would be the most common tools and sizes I should have on board.

Marv - I here ya... figured it's winter and you guys have nothing better to do:D

as always appreciate your input of any type :D

Hell, I'll give it a shot here.
1 full set of standard allen wrenches
1 "sleeve" of 3/8 standard sockets (like Erldawg, I prefer the 6 point over the 12 point
(1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, 3/4)
1 10mm wrench or socket (battery terminal nut is the only metric I know of)
1 set of wrenches (same as socket sizes above)
1 crescent wrench (as big as will fit into your bag
1 adjustable pliers
1 needle nose pliers
Small tube of thread locker
6 plastic wire ties
1 screw driver with both type heads
2 hose clamps (fuel line size)
1 roll of electrical tape

I think that's about it for my bag. And yes, it's packed!!!!!!

Way to go Brad....

Add a small DVM for those pesky electrical problemos. Harbor Freight under 10 bucks.

Can't believe I forgot this, but I have to revise my list! Please add a spark plug socket (size depends on BDM year model) and 2 extra spark plugs (pre-gapped). Now, that about sums up my kit. If you've got room, bailing wire and duct tape can work wonders too.
