sissy bar mounting,etc

Energy One
after trying to find a sissy bar...with NO luck. and NOT seeing the need in paying nearly 900.00 for one.
i've decided to build my own.

so, here's my questions.

1) how does it mount to the fender struts?
2)is it really necessary to buy new struts?

i'm not sure how to mount the bar...so a close up picture would really help if any one has.

Thanks in advance for any help guys.

steve.

Only 2007 and up have struts with sissy bar mounts(holes) in them. I had to buy new struts with the holes in them for my 07 because it was an early model. Check eBay. I found mine there much cheaper.

okay. i'll check ebay. i was thinking i could machine a groove and a hole in my current strut to support the sissy bar for a hell of alot cheaper than 219.00.
then i could buy some round bar and make my own.
that's why i wanted a close up picture of the strut.. i'll look on ebay for a picture.

thanks fellers

I will take pictures if you would like. The bar mounts from the back of the strut. Let me know! The original struts might not be enough to hold a bar for passanger maybe just a bag or for looks.

struts

bought mine for 99.00 free shipping, new, polished, from e bay. if no one bids on them u can get them for 99, sometimes they will go up to 227, dont understand why they bid so high, if they look in his store they usually sell for 149.

I've been looking for the parts too, and have been equally discouraged by the pricing. I already have the struts, so that's a bit less to worry about. But it seems like it's $200+ for the bar, $100-$200 for the plate, $100-$200 for the pad, then if you want a seat it's either $200+ for a p-pad or a bit more for a nice 2 up.

There's a lot of upgrades I'd like to do to the bike over time, but even the something like grips is close to $200 a pop. I guess you just gotta watch around for deals.

I have been over the year collecting these parts bit by bit. If you are paitent you will find the good deals. If only I was rich then no problem!:D

I just got one of the 05-07 Pitbull/ Ridgeback sissy bar kits on ebay from BDM for $100. I'm going to cut the top of it, widen it and put it back together so it will fit my 08 Ridgeback. Will post pics once I have it. Also bought the passenger peg kit and will do the same thing for it. $250 for $700 worth of stuff that needs a little fab work ain't bad :D

thanks phatchopper... i had NO idea the bar mounted to the back side of the struts!!
got me thinkin now..lol

i really appreciate the time you took to help out a fellow bdb! :)
