i have a 2006 k-9 , i am on the 3rd EHC and third battery, i recently had the most updated EHC installed by my dealer,3 months ago. with, a new battery also. worked good at the shop until i got it home, went to fire it up and the starter engages for about 1/2 second then the blinkers flash like emergency flashers... i am told the batter is bad, had it on the battery maintainer/charger with no difference, anyone else with this problem and do you all think it really is the battery?

When the lights flash... it means the EHC isn't getting all the voltage it needs. Maybe you have a bad cell. What type of charger did you use and at what amperage? You will find that most of us use a battery tender jr on our dogs.

Question on the flashing lights representing a bad battery......Are the BD's designed to do that or is that just an symptom of a weak battery?

The EHC is designed to do that to basically tell you to go F yourself. It knows there isn't enough voltage to do its thing.

what about the VR? have you checked to see if it has '04 or '05 in the # or does it have '06? could just not be charging on it's own. just a thought. don't know enough to give a difinitive answer, sorry.

Third EHC? Third Battery? On a two year old bike? Somethings definitely not right there. It would appear to me that when you turn the key off, there is still something draining the battery.

So that would spell either a possible short that can occur or there is some module in the electrical circuit that is draining the battery. Maybe you have some running lights or some module that is not turned off by the key?

Maybe you have a burglar alarm running or something. I just can't imagine 3 batteries going bad in two years. I have the original in my chopper and it's 5 years old now.

Keep us posted of characteristics with all the details. Welcome to the site, we'll help to solve your problem.

re

Sounds like just like a short to me. I still have the original ehc on my 05. I'd go over all my wires first.

Yeah I would check the VR... good idea. It killed my battery but it did it very fast! Once it went, it smoked the battery in a matter of hours!

the tender is a schumacher charger/maintainer from autozone....

i do have a scorpion alarm connected to the system. when in the garage i dont arm it. do you think it still has a drain on it by just being hooked up and if i keep the tender on it it shouldn't matter if it has a small drain the tender should handle that. i could take the fuse out of the alarm and put it back in when i need to use the alarm,???also have LED'S hooked to the system ??dam,.to much shit going on no wonder i have problems!!!!!

also, the first EHC was a factory reject with the recall problem, the replacement EHC for that one ,i fried it when i hooked up the jumper cables off my car to it backwards in the dark in a hurry to go riding with my buddies.

:hi: you may just be overloading the entire system with all that you have on it. remember, it's not a car with a 750cca optima battery and a 160 amp alternator to keep it charged up. :bang:

Had the same issue with my K-9, it would try to start for half a second and then it would do nothing, every now and then the lights would start flashing. Tried to jump start it by connecting it to the car, which I've done a few times in the past (after the bike has been sitting for a while) -but nothing. Replaced the battery and it started immediately. Thanks to all who post tips on this forum. It makes life easier when troubleshooting problems with our Big Dogs.
